Konami are imposing restrictions on what publications can and cannot talk about when reviewing Metal Gear Solid 4. No mention of 90-minute cutscenes please, and while you're at it, no talky-talky about install sizes either, K? IGN are cool with that. EGM, refreshingly, are not. Due to "limitations Konami wanted to impose on our comments", the editorial team decided to refrain from giving the game a score, and in lieu of a "review" posted a lengthy roundtable discussion about the game instead. It's hardly a gloved fist on an Olympic dias, but it is nice seeing somebody do something about such an...unsavoury practice.

Good on them, I say.

It does surely depend entirely on what the restrictions were, surely?

Well that's..interesting. Why don't they just laugh in their face and review it anyway? What a stupid fucking situation the games industry is in, seriously. Could you imagine Paramount turning round to the BBC and vetoing what Film2008 (is that still going?) could talk about in their latest film review?

I guess to get their hands on a copy of the game they had to sign contracts about what they would and wouldn't say.

All in the name of that fucking word "exclusive" I suppose. Buy it from the shops if they're going to play cunt tricks. Where's the ubermensch when you need him eh?

They can of course buy a copy when it's out and review it.

Indeed, although that's almost always true of print mags anyway :)

Is EGM worth reading? I last bought it about 15 years ago and, like all US mags, seemed to be mainly ads.

Unless you like American ads...No. Though I applaud them on this stance. *applauds*.

Quite a lot of shops stock it round here though, I can often find it easier than Edge (because no-one ever buys EGM?)

The subscription price to the UK works out at about £1.50 an issue or something and it's worth that. Not worth buying from a newsagent, though.

I bet a MaliPint that it gets 10/10 in every magazine and turns out to be dull as shit.

I'm sure it'll be quite a good movie.

It would really tickle me if it was just "An uncomfortable turth" repackaged, seeing as whatshisfacethatmadeit bangs on about the rights and wrongs of modern man in a patronising fashion.

Uncomfortable Truth has far more gore than allowable in modern Hollywood flicks.
