Thats a nice to have , however going back to 1 , no customizable classes then until you hit (4?) and having to unlock everything again means your a bit of a gimped character for a while (mid 30's / 40's for me so i have my claymores and preferred gun out)

Yeah but in call of duty 4 that was actually quite helpful to me because it forced me to use alternative weapons and experiment with class set ups that I wasn't used to using, so I think that overall it improved my game. There is also the lovely memory of my first game after my first prestige in CoD4. Sabotage on Downpour and I was having to use one of the pre made classes that you were given at level one. With my first spawn I called in a chopper and got a 12 kill streak or something. :)

Even when you first start off it doesn't take too long until you get to the decent stuff (claymores excluded). Then once you prestige you already know the maps & can pwn n00bs with your m4d l337 sh1tgunz & rank up mega fast.

The fact you get something decent out of prestige now makes it worthwhile especially when you look back at MW1's wanky badges.

While the thumper/shield thing is amusing, it's certainly not good for the kill/death ratio or scoring a lot of points. Once the enemy figured it out they had us over a barrel.

I like most of the maps, but I hate Quarry, Rundown, Favela and I'm not fussed on Afghan or Underpass. I think my favourites are Terminal, Invasion, Sub Base and Skid Row.

Depends what your playing - for Domination yes the kills / deaths thing looks strange but you should be capturing (and defending) lots of positions for loads of points - so when you get the first 'points' total at the end you look at it and go - meh - and your in the middle / of the table , but when you add in all the extra bonus stuff you get a pile of points (i just got a 8000 point game and my kill / death ratio was something silly like 10 / 25)

*some* people dont know what to do and panic , however it seems after that their next reaction is to throw flashbangs - now if you've already released your smoke you just drop a claymore , step back slightly and hold the shield up - they trip the claymore / die / and you survive.

Semtex is the real problem - when you get that on you its the end.

And remember when your respawning (or at any other point) you can hit start and change your class to something else (on your next spawn) so if they seem to know their way around the riot shield switch to something else.

In other news the Lave class with dual shotguns is not too bad - however it depends on the map - in Favela you need to avoid going anywhere near the rooftops because you just dont have the range to do anything but running around the edges and some of the little alleyways is nice - you can suprise people by having the shield - killing them - they respawn and come back to find your dual shotguns in the face when they are thinking they have time to work their way around you :-)

I play a lot of Domination (my favourite mode) so I think I'll get better results with just my ACR in most situations.

Don't think so, I tried one I found in the box and it didn't work, besides, I don't really have the time at the moment, Ive got a metric shittonne of things to do for college and the like. Thanks anyway, though.

I have a feeling it's a special code designed to compensate me for the time I was unable to use my Gold subscription because my Xbox was being repaired. You know, to pre-empt people demanding a refund for the time they couldn't kill fagots with n00btubes.

But yeah, it's there if you want it.

Reading on the wiki now how the RDS is arguably better than the holographic.

Also interesting is the notes on the thermal. The snow thing is, in fact, accurate because while snow isn't hot, the light radiation given off by it is detected by the scope as being thus. However, because of the way the game works, both riot shields and carried flags show up as glowing 'hot' because they're part of the player model. At the same time, a real thermal doesn't work through glass, but the thermal scope does whereas the thermal used by aircraft killstreaks doesn't.

Likewise, neither the ACOG or RDS should be effected by the EMP due to the way they generate their light. FMJ is standard issue in the military (hollowpoints are illegal by international law) so 'FMJ' is actually Armour Piercing in the game. If a Semtex grenade sticks to your shield or weapon, if you quickly swap for a dropped one on the ground and run away you can avoid being blown up. And because the throwing knife kills in one hit, you can throw it at the ground so it will bounce back up and under a enemy with a shield (assuming you don't just throw it into their foot anyway)

I am enjoying the fact that we can regularly get 10+ people for private games. It does make me sad however that there is no experience for these :(

I miss all my killstreaks and guns :(

It's a damned shame, but it'd be open to such abuse if you did get XP for them.

Last night was fun until we got that crate-spamming group of tossers. Coupled with the lag, and I just switched my box off. I did say bye to you all, but fuck knows if it actually got through.

The riot shield class remains fun, unless you come up against some stabby classes, at which point you have to switch to something different. I've ditched the Thumper for a Magnum now, as it's much faster at utterly destroying stragglers or people who flat-out turn their back on you.

edit: or better still. Knock them back with your riot shield, then quickly switch to your Magnum and empty six bullets into their heads.

I did hear a "fuck this im off to bed" or something along those lines.

Mosh pit seems to be the best bet for team fun as you kinda have to change your tactics/classes for each game mode. And sometimes you get alrite people, most of the time in the evening now it's just wullie making terrible your mum jokes at americans :D

Enjoyed the quick game last night, then over heard someone say lets go back for Zardoz. But I was still in the lobby 8) . I went back out thinking the connection was borked then thought I'd crack on with ODST for a bit.

Loving the SMGs at the moment.

Not really sure what happened there.
Nevermind.
I still think we should at one point try to get a public lobby all to ourselves by joining in progress and waiting for all the other people to leave and only be left with us.

Nope - would it work if one of us just started , and then everyone else 'joined' them (when you look at their gamertag you can 'join game in progress' as one of the options?)

Halo 3 allows for a choice of search. By language, by region etc.
I've not seen any other game offer that. But then again, I choose to keep out of public games.

That's what I was thinking. even if we can get say 8 people into a lobby it could be quite fun. And we'd get experience for it. The only problem is with the host sometimes crapping out etc... and getting matched with people originally that won't leave or whatever.

Quite often if there's 6 of us in a game & we smash the opposition everyone will leave after the game. That'd be the ideal time to strike. Or if we send six into a lobby it seems to take forever to connect, so we could do it then. Only problem is it'd constantly be the same teams.

Why would it be the same teams ? , even with randoms the people you play with varies from game to game.

Problem would be if we wanted to change the game mode - when you'd have to do the same again.

If you go in together as a party you stay in that party the whole time.

Nah, I seemed to genuinely upset one of them last night though, he went really quiet & spoke softly after it. I felt kinda bad.

The PS3 did a MW2 update earlier. Now MW2 won't work. Teh internets say that people have been going out to buy new slim PS3s to overcome this problem. Ramsea questioned this, I pointed out that not everyone has 3 xboxesesessses to fall back on in their hour of need and what if he was level 68 prestige 9 Sony fanboy and had nothing to do all day but play MW2, he agreed he'd go buy a PS3 from the nearest shop.

A few good games last night (apart from the one they spammed the chopper and harriers and that 10th level prestige guy)

I can see that you decided to Prestige Gill - what differences did it make for you ?

(i'm about 20 kills off maxing one of my guns and about 3 airstrike callins away from maxing that and then would consider going back to the start for that extra slot)
