Aye, it's a shame having to give up my XP and challenges just to play with you lot when you're all online at once.

Is it just the matchmaking thats broken or is it because of the size of group we're in ?

II had a quick look this morning and there are a few challenges i'm only 1 or 2 kills off maxing which i probably will over the next day or two then have a look at going back to the start - however if it means i lose my 'Lave' class for a while thats not good :-)

Perk Challenges at the moment :

Marathon Pro VI - 104 miles - one of the first ones i got
Sleight of hand Pro VI - 750 kills with SOH
Scavenger Pro VI - resupply 500 times

Bling Pro VI - 714 out of 900
One man army IV - 74 out of 120
Stopping power Pro VI - 1000 kills
Lightweight Pro V - 40 out of 100
Hardline Pro V - 82 out of 100
Cold Blooded IV - 20 out of 40
Danger close II - 13 out of 25
Commando Pro III - 5 out of 10
Steady Aim Pro VI - 500 kills
Scramber pro V - 71 out of 125
Ninja Pro VI - 250 kills
Sitrep Pro II - 15 out of 30
Last stand pro I - 0 out of 2

Apols for vanishing last night mid-game. My entire internet crapped out on me.

A shame, as the Rust Headquarters was quite amusing!

Im pretty sure with maxing out the perks you get new titles as well. Which for some will be easier than others. Sit rep and lightweight I imagine will be a particular ballache

Yeah, you have to run insane distances for the Lightweight Perk. And don't you only get emblems, or do you get titles as well?

I thought getting the Cold Blooded one would be hard, but recently I've been flying through them. A couple of times recently I've shot down 4 killstreak rewards in about a minute!

Scavenger, Cold Blooded, Stinger.

Cheers for the games, really good fun when we managed to all squeeze out of the lobby.

Not sure what was going on with the chat/my mic so sorry if no-one heard my replies, especially Ramsea who carried on for a couple of games with me.

Good games last night, but I was really tired by the end of it, and felt like a right mug when, after what felt like a looooong time, the sabotage game on highrise went to overtime and I killed someone, was about to get into a really good position... and then walked off the edge of the building

Good times last night, although I was too distracted/monged/drunk for the sabotage games.

Apologies for inviting my brother, who in turn invited his friend who was 50 kills/3 deaths after 5 minutes on Terminal. I'd love to blame it on glitching, but he was just too fucking good.

I had about the same K/D ratio in that game on Terminal. Unfortunately I don't think it counts 'kills of your own team because you haven't noticed it's on hardcore'.

Okay to 'be' Lave :

[*]WEAPONS: Riot Shield & Thumper

Riot shield available from the start
Thumper unlocked at level 14

[*]EQUIPMENT: Smoke Grenade & Claymore

Smoke grenade available from the start
Claymore available at level 31

[*]PERK 1: Scavanger (walking over a dead body re-arms everything including claymores and smoke grenades)

Unlocked at level 13

[*]PERK 2: Your Choice: Lightweight for speed is possible, but Cold-Blooded* to avoid being killed and especially Danger Close to beef up your explosions are best.

Lightweight available from the start
Cold-Blooded available at level 25
Danger close available at level 33

[*]PERK 3: Scrambler.

Available at start

So really you need to be level 33 to do all of this , 31 for the claymores , 14 at least for the thumper

It was probably quite funny to see, I'll admit :'(

I really want to try the 'Lave' style now - I had a bit of a go with the riot shield last night just for a laugh, I'd forgotten that it can be quite good fun.

It was ace fun, and certainly a little confusing for the opposition. We need more practice, and I'm not sure having a Thumper each is the best plan given how slow it is, but we did hammer them 200-126 or so.

I crawled down a corridor towards a guy with my riot shield out at one point, and he just flat out ran away.

Woo, I'm glad how well this went.

To me, I think you should definitly give the thumper a go at least at the start, because it helps you get in the mindset needed for the play style.

You'll be suprised at how much a 'proper' gun stops you playing in the manner needed for this approach. I switched to Duel Ratticas (my default side arm as they are spectacular) and got really hammered. It makes you think you should be killing people, which really isn't the aim.

That said, I've only played this way by myself (with a few random imitators after a few games), so with an army of 6 or so I imagine a more varied load out could be needed.

Typically I just fire my two thumper grenades at the flag whilst running towards it, then forget about it till my next life (or flag).

Oh and dropping a claymore is a really good alternative to a melee attack when your using your riot shield.

Especially when going up against other riot shielded people.

I did think of that late on in the game, but it was too late to actually test it out. Slowly advancing towards someone, head-on, then planting a Claymore at their feet if they dare to challenge you would be interesting, if you got away with the timing.

My one complaint about the Thumpers is how slow they are to equip, so I might try some faster weapons just to balance out the team's strengths a bit next time.

Bloody ace fun, anyway. We were all laughing like loons the entire match. Smoke everywhere, Claymores on every corner, then a massive turtle of people camping the flags.

If you can stand giving up the Claymore, then a Throwing Knife is very, very quick.

Also, I want to try the tactic of throwing a semtex grenade on to a friendly dude with a riot shield, and then letting them charge the enemy.

:D

That would work even better with C4. Lob it on to the shield carrier, and when they're about to die, set it off!

:DD

Oooh, I just remembered Gill's awesome kill. Playing Headquarters, she's the only one left. The enemy find her on the HQ (Wasteland, in the shallow water), and one of them actually lies down next to her as she's laying a claymore. He somehow fails to see her, and it just sits there for a few seconds before he twitches and it goes off.

Muchos funny.

1 or 2 'norms' in the team should do it. At one point 3 of you guys made a wall down a corridor, I stood behind you in complete safety and threw a grenade at the advance. Kabooom! :luv:

Switching from the shield is long enough to get you killed 9/10 times on its own, so yeah, its super slow. The AT4-HS can be free fired, maybe thats quicker.

Other than that you could try the shotguns of ratticas*

*thats a pokemon isn't it?

After a few matches yesterday it was great turning a corner , seeing someone shoot , realise i had a shield and then turn around and run away (the best way i found to get them was then to switch to the thumper and take them out from behind).

I was also wondering if i could swap the thumper out for dual something else (shotguns seem to be too close range and if they are close you want the shield to whack them with but thinking pistols or SMG's)

Definetly one of the things holding me back is thinking that i'll be playing a 'gimped' character for a while until i get back to about 30-odds and have my stuff back (since unlocked i've *always* used claymores and have some nice spots on each map that a claymore will always get me a few kills on - and my fav gun is the M16A4 which isnt unlocked till 40)

RE: changing out of shield - would it help to have the Sleight of hand perk , does that make switching from the other weapon to the shield quicker ?

Also one drawback i found was that you needed to be careful as you planted the claymore because you were vulnerable while it was actually being planted.

And i think the most i died with the shield was against lightweight / marathon knifey people because they were just too quick - they ran 'beside' you and knifed as they went past and you just collapsed :-(

Not that I'm aware of, and it gives no indication of such in the description. Faster reloading, and faster aiming down sights.

And you'd lose your skavengyness, which is a big issue if you only have two thumper shells and a claymore.

Your right - which also rules out dual blinged / FMJ'd shotguns (although not basic dual ones)

You need plenty of smoke (and claymores)

My playtime on this is about 2 days i think and when you actually start maxing out stuff the XP rolls in - its 10k or something similar for maxing out some of the guns and a good few thousand for maxing out a perk (marathon pro should be maxed out in just a few games and if you have claymores scavenger pro can be as well just by dropping them every time you see a body)

There is also a lot of stuff i've not touched on here - apart from scavenging them from dead bodies i've not really used Pistols / SMG's / Sniper Rifles / LMG's (i tried one but didnt like the slowdown) - and until yesterday i'd not really used the riot shield

I don't think I'll bother prestiging at all. It's taken me long enough just to get to the level I am on now (42 or something).

I'm still undecided - having an extra class would be nice and the extra challenges would be something to keep me focused

This page

http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Prestige

Also lists that some of the gun challenges do not reset ?

Quote:
Pros

Once the player enters Prestige Mode for the first time in Modern Warfare 2, they will be rewarded with a sixth custom class slot. The same occurs at every odd prestige level, so a total of five additional custom class slots can be unlocked by Prestige Level 9. In addition, any earned titles and emblems obtained before entering Prestige Mode are not lost. Players also unlock some Prestige Challenges to level up faster and get some new Callsigns. There are also certain Callsigns that can only be unlocked through Prestige Mode. The challenges unlocked through Prestige for each gun persist to the next Prestige level (the kills and headshots for each gun's Mastery and Veteran challenges do not reset). This exception also applies to the challenges in the Prestige category that deal with killstreaks (getting a certain number of kills with a specific killstreak reward).

Cons

If a player enters Prestige Mode in Modern Warfare 2, every unlocked weapon, killstreak, perk and challenge will be reset. (Prestige challenges, which are unlocked at 1st prestige, are not reset and will be collective across all prestiges.)

Unlocks

* Prestige 1: Extra Custom Class Slot (6 Total, custom slots become available at Level 4), New Emblem, New Title, "Prestige" Tier of Challenges, including Veteran and Master challenges for each weapon
* Prestige 2: New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 3: Extra Custom Class Slot (7 Total), New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 4: New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 5: Extra Custom Class Slot (8 Total), New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 6: New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 7: Extra Custom Class Slot (9 Total), New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 8: New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 9: Extra Custom Class Slot (10 Total), New Emblem, New Title
* Prestige 10: New Emblem, New Title 10

Prestige Mode

When the "Prestige Mode" button is clicked, a message comes up saying:

"Trade all your accomplishments for a bit of prestige. Other players will see your new prestige rank in the lobby, leader boards and game."

After this message the player can select "Learn More" or cancel and return to the menus. After clicking "Learn More", a second warning pops up saying:

"Prestige has a price: Everything you've unlocked including weapons, experience and challenges will be reset; you'll have to rank up again to reacquire them. Only your leader board rankings, clan tag, and play lists will be unaffected."

Should the player still be determined to go to Prestige Mode, one final warning pops up saying:

"There's no going back..."

Should the player then hit "Enter Prestige", the decision is final and Prestige Mode is activated. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, a Desert Eagle shot is heard to confirm it. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, when the player enters this message, a claymore will tick. if the player decides to press Cancel, they will hear a chicken clucking. If they continue, the claymore will blow up.

It's not that i'm a terrible player, i just have to make the most of the little time i get to game these days. I've taken everything on board that has been mentioned recently about scavenger and stingers etc and once i've got the last couple of FAMAS unlocks (about 7 headshots, the FMJ challenge and about 19 kills off the 10000xp) i'll do something else.
I seem to have a really good game every 5-6 games, usually i'm above average (but look dire when playing with Bezzies), still mega chuffed with my recent 19 kill streak, though i've not been able to get near it since......

Awesome fun last night, all. I did like the kill on quarry where I entirely failed to notice I was getting stabbed in the face, while cowering in a corner as last man standing.

In my defence I completely deserved it.

Your spray of bullets into my back for absolutely no reason at the start of one match gave me a chuckle, too.

I was on the opposite side , the time was running out - someone else (Malabar?) and i were covering 2 of the doors into the bomb area and there was a claymore on each one and we were just sitting watching the timer going with guns drawn when we start to hear this laughing over the headsets .... then the killcam came on to show the match winning kill and i had to mute the mike cause i was laughing that much.

I think afterwards it was mentioned that the tag you got in that game was 'no kills from behind' and the comment was around the fact that they just walked around you and killed you from the front :-)

i always forget i can cancel the Kill-Cam and watch, with morbid fascination, the stupid way i got killed. Usually failing to hit someone running straight at me, or taking so long to line up a shot the other person has put a bullet practically down my gun site.

Yep, that was me commenting... I was pissing myself laughing over that.

I absolutely hate hate hate the highrise level. Can we never ever do it again? Granted I got some good scores on it, but it's horrid.

I didn't really get into any of the games last night until Sabotage on Highrise, which was fantastic back and forth brilliance. So no.

I really dont like Underpass, howeve I enjoy highrise and my only comment on that Sabotage one was that it seemed to drag on forever.

Whats sabotage like on Rust ? :-)

(BTW when playing with randoms it does seem to go in little patterns where you always seem to get the same 3 or 4 maps over and over again - I think i've actually ended up on Rust only about 4 or 5 games out of hundreds)

Sabotage is excellent fun with Bezzies... until Nickachu teleports through you on the way to the bomb site. Repeatedly.

FTFY

Oh and comments on people who can / cant host when we're playing (since i've not had my headset around its hard to point this out) - I turn everything else using my net connection off when playing and i'm on a wireless connection - but i do have about 18 down / 1.2 up and my Xbox is in the DMZ on my router so it is 'open'
(O2 Home Broadband Pro FTW)

(I know when i hosted at the weekend we only managed one game though before it disconnected everyone but that could have been anything)

I wasn't going to bother entering Prestige but I am considering it now for an extra customisable class slot-I could do with another one.

I need to level up to get Claymores. I may need to shun private matches until then.

Thats a nice to have , however going back to 1 , no customizable classes then until you hit (4?) and having to unlock everything again means your a bit of a gimped character for a while (mid 30's / 40's for me so i have my claymores and preferred gun out)
