A few possibilities:
Crap router
Inconistent latency.
Line problems between you and another player.
Crap netcode.

Router is the same one I used in the last place where I had an awesome connection.
Issues happen whenever I host a game, not just with specific players.
Issue doesn't really happen to others.

So it's the latency thingy, or just some general buggeration on the line.

Might see if anyone in the wider online world has experienced similar issues.

The lobby was being just as wanky after you left the other day. Particularly in refusing to let Runcle play with us.

Is it possible that the current ISP may not like the settings on your router? Years ago, problems such as that were not uncommon, although I've not heard of anything recently. (I have a vague, and therefore not particulary reliable, memory of an ISP requiring a certain value for a stable connection, wheras the old ISP wanted something else. I can picture the modem that I was playing with, and the hall/lounge but I can't for the life of me place the memory.)

Quote:

I kept it deliberately vague ;) The line problem could be anything from between your xbox and the router to a hitch for traffic exiting the ISP.
Does the amount of players have any effect?

Quote:

Sadly, that doesn't rule out crap netcode. There are good reasons I hate coding games for internet play.

Quote:
So it's the latency thingy

Try pingtest to various sites round the area. Watch for dropped packets. Ideally, you'd want to do several at a time.

What, precisely, happens when you host?

This isn't the worst thing in the world :)

I think I'm the only one of us who never has a problem hosting. Bobby hosting when nickachu is playing is a particular ballache.

Not always, sometimes I get lost in the lobby game.

I also played CoD4 last night. It felt dated compared to MW2.

Well, Jesus gun or not. something worked in my favour last night.
20-1 kill\death ratio on my first game of the night which included a 17 kill streak from the start.
Still loving the Bling Famas with ACOG and grenade launcher, shotgun and claymore setup.

Wahey! 20-1 is proper good :D

I do find it's best to run claymores with scavenger, that way it goes boom, kills someone, go pick up new one, place again, boom, place again...etc.... Great for camping!

The real problem i'm finding with Randoms is *none* of them have bothered to load out with Stingers or things to take down planes and choppers.

So *I* normally have a stinger as my secondary and take them down - every time i try and switch and use a pistol or a shotgun to try and play around with them the enemy gets a chopper and it mows down the team or everyone just has to hide while its there (whereas normally i take them out almost as soon as they arrive - and i like mowing down their UAV's).

My best streak is around 13 , and i'm on level 65 at the moment - weapon wise it was the M16A4 but i've switched to the ACR (strange going from a 3 shot burst back to full auto) with a grenade launcher and FMJ (to get the unlocks) , claymores and a stinger as alternative (i did try the Striker shotgun for a while yesterday but had to keep switching back everytime the enemy got a chopper or Harriers).

Perk 1 switches between Marathon / Bling
Perk 2 is generally Stopping Power (although i really want to get coldblooded pro to remove my name)
Perk 3 either Steady Aim (for me spraying bullets everywhere) or Ninja

I do like the claymores with the scavenger perk if your running around i tend to drop claymores all over the place , and a question for the more knowledgeable on here.

When i plant a claymore and then die shortly afterwards i wait for the deathcam in case the person goes round the corner and hits the claymore (happens more often than you'd think) , if instead of waiting i just respawned does my claymore just vanish ?

Yes it does.

I got a Predator missile purely from scavenged claymores, whilst camping in the house on 'Estate'. There was a massive pile of bodies going around the corner at the top of the stairs!

w/r/t Stingers etc, I have one class with Cold Blooded Pro set on it. When an enemy aircraft arrives, I tend to hide and camp. If I die, I'll immediately change to that class, shoot it down, and switch back.

I always have a Stinger (not sure if I like the Javelin yet) and love blowing up annoying harriers and choppers.

Are the choppers/AC130s able to spoof Javelins?

They can indeed fool them with their flares.

If you do and your on an open map also listen out for "enemy UAV in the air , and look around to see if you can spot it - it comes down in 1 hit and stops them seeing your team on the map (and it also ruins someones 3 kill streak to get it out and gives you some XP)

MetalAngel wrote:

Yes

http://www.themodernwarfare2.com/mw2/mu ... llstreaks/

So they drop chaff / flares which blocks at least your first shot

Never used a Javelin one one before. Not sure if flares and chaff fool an image recognition-guided missile the same way they fool a heat-seeking Stinger or radar-guided missile.

The stinger is the best for taking down everything as you get 2 shots with it. Javelin you only get one, but it is fun aiming the other side of the map and taking out a load of people with the javlin.

That's one thing that really confuses me. The other team gets a harrier, it starts raping us, and no-one ever bothers to shoot at it or at least switch to a cold blooded class. unless playing with bezzies where there's far too many people trying to shoot down any killstreak reward :D

No it doesn't, it lasts a little while. There's a challenge (which I have) for killing someone with a claymore after you've died.

That doesn't bother me really, all my army mannies are cold blooded ninjas. However the only AA class I've got is my LMG one with a stinger as my secondary.

I normally run cold blooded, but some had either lightweight pro or stopping power pro on (mainly my sniper class) and when Im miles away doing a bobby and get picked off by a harrier it's rather annoying! :D

I've never really considered cold-blooded but i think you may have sold it to me.
So cold blooded stops you getting shot by choppers/harriers? hmm, not even thought about using a stinger yet.
Scavenger hasn't grabbed my attention yet either, but if you can get some cool stuff it might be worth doing.
I must admit, that when i play with non-bezzies i don't really always play as a team player very much. what i mean by that is i'll look at my challenges and think right, i need 5 headshots and 20 kills with this gun before i can move onto the next weapon challenges.
Last night was the first time in ages i played with some of you guys and found myself concerned more with backing people up and being a team player.

Cold blooded stops them seeing you as the lovely obvious red square on the overhead view, as I understand it.

It also means you just show up as a normal person in a thermal scope as opposed to a glowing white heat signature.

The thermal scopes are crap anyway, on Derail where you think they'd be ideal they're actually useless because this 'thermal' camera still shows the snow as white ('hot' snow, is it? Interesting) and so the little people running around tend to disappear.

For the AC130, the chopper gunner and predator missile

It also stops sentry guns, harriers, choppers, etc... shooting you so you can get a clear shot when using the stinger.

I just run an AA class with an ass rifle, scav, cold blooded and ninja for extra sneakyness

Yeah, thermals on hardcore are essentially worthless. as everyone runs cold blooded.
The whole derail snow thermal is annoying as bad guys show up really easily on wasteland (basically the only map which it is good on)

@curio. Try pingtest.net. It apparently is a better indicator of gaming performance than speedtest.net

How does the Scavenger perk work, exactly? I'm yet to try it.

When doing single player/spec ops, the m14 with thermal is undoubtedly my favouritist ever weapon. Not in the multi though.

I really must try and join in with some bezzie MW2, as currently I play mostly free for all, as playing with strangers on team based games usually leaves me pretty cold.

Scavenger lets you pick up more ammo by walking over dead bodies. It's pretty good, I use it quite a bit.

Is it automatic and instant? Does it work on team-mates or only enemies?

I usually use Bling with Holographic + Silencer. It's nice not showing up on the map when you fire, but the kill-cam completely ruins it.

People die, they drop blue satchals. You walk over these and you resupply the weapon you're carrying +grenades and special grenades. You can use it to resupply noob tube and secondary weapon aswell by having them equipped.

Scav pro does the same but you also start with a lot more ammo

Aye, when people die they drop a small blue package. You can pick this up and it refills your ammo and equipment such as nades and claymores. I use this with semtex and its bloody amazing.

I never use cold blooded except for my AA class...I like Stopping Power too much.

edit: Nik beat me to it
