Couldn't find an existing thread (perhaps because someone's given it one of those hilarious search-defying names like "Masseuse Fecked 2"), but I'm excited about this and it might just join that small club of games I deem worthy of buying less than one year after release.

So...

a) If I went completely crazy and got it at launch, what's the least I'll have to pay (either 360 or PC)?
b) Having played the first one on the 360, what would I miss by getting the PC version? Specifically: can someone who reads previews more obsessively than me explain what benefits there are from continuing with a previous character?
c) Happy new year all- FASCINATINGLY this is my first post on this here forum since the start of this decade.

Happy New Year!

I can't really help you but I'll be getting the 360 version when it's about £20. I've spent far too much on games lately. I loved Mass Effect so I defo will get number two.

It got 10/10 in the new GamesTM and they reckon it could be game of the year already.

I'll be waiting on this one, too. There was a bit too much about the first that annoyed me, so I'll wait for the hive mind.

Bioware are ranting and raving about their 'intense DLC schedule' for it which makes me wary... it'll like mean that:
a) it will be the same as the original Mass Effect, where we got one pretty average mission that lasted about two hours, and a second DLC so long afterwards that nobody really bothered with it (not least of all as it was crap)
b) it will be like Dragon Arse, with little side missions dribbling out, which could mean you're best off waiting for the inevitable GOTY edition.

I'm seriously considering just waiting for the GOTY edition rather than paying full whack and then having to fill in blanks at 800MSP a time. I can just see it now:

Quote:
JOKER: Commander, we're receiving a distress signal!
SHEPARD: UNF UNF UNF UNF
LIARA: OH YES GRIND MY BLUE CLIT
JOKER: Commander?
SHEPARD: There.... in.... ten... MIIIINUTES!!!!!!!

(later)

SHEPARD: (dishevelled) What's up?
JOKER: We've received a distress call from yet another Kowloon class freighter!
SHEPARD: Let's hear it.
DISTRESS CALL: This is the MSV Boddington, we have been overrun by a mysterious alien parasite! Our engines have failed. Please! We require assistance! This is...
SHEPARD: Take us in, Chris... I mean, Joker.

(dramatic shot of the Normandy swooping down to the freighter, which is adrift)
(SHEPARD, LIARA and THANE are in the Normandy airlock)

COMPUTER: Equalizing pressure. Magnetic locks secured. Door opening.

(The team make their way into the Boddington's air lock.)

COMPUTER: Alert: Airlock controls offline. Door motivators inoperable.

LIARA: Commander?

(camera pans over to SHEPARD and zooms in dramatically)

<Download the premium content.>
<Not right now.>

<Download the premium content.>
<Not right now.>

SHEPARD: Open it.

(an exciting battle sequence so intense it can't be described in text ensues. Except not really. SHEPARD and the team fight haywire combat bots (again), the mysterious alien parasite-infected crew (which is yet another palette swapped version of husks/creepers) through exactly the same map layout as every other Kowloon-class freighter)

(the team reach the bulkhead door.)

CAPTAIN: Who's there? is it safe?

SHEPARD: This is Commander Shepard of the Normandy. It's safe.

CAPTAIN: Oh thank goodness you came, Commander!

LIARA: You are most fortunate.

CAPTAIN: Yes. By the time we realized what was happening, most of the crew was infected.

SHEPARD: Are you able to get back underway?

CAPTAIN: We should be able to fix the engines, yes. Commander, we owe you our lives. We're delivering this experimental armour and weapon shipment. Please take one set, we'll explain it to the client.

SHEPARD: Thank you.

(SHEPARD examines the unique set of armour. It's rather ugly and is vastly inferior to the armour she found several planets ago. She immediately dissolves it into Omnigel, along with the experimental assault rifle which is not a weapon type she or her team use).

It must include at least the first DLC, not sure about the second one. The second one is just an arena combat insult anyway.

It's being advertised on TV! ANd it looks dreary as hell, not least of all as Boring Male Shepard is fronting it, as opposed to Badass Female Shepard (who manages to be a strong, no-shit-taking female character without seeming like a career bitch)

The benefits are largely superficial. That said, they do help to make it feel like a proper continuation of the story. For example, remember that creepy Commander Shepard fanboy you meet at the Citadel? (you could either give him an autograph or tell him to get lost). The same guy returns in the new game, and the old dialogue choices you made will affect the way he treats you. Bear in mind though, this stuff only works if you finished Mass Effect and still have the save file on your hard drive.

I don't think I've ever seen a TV ad that's done the game any favours. Take Liberty City Stories for example - an ad made of badly-acted cut-scenes. I saw the Bayonetta ad the other night too and it made it look pretty ordinary too.

And Assassin's Creed 2, where for some reason they've chosen to play a Justice track over the top, completely ruining the feel and standing out like a sore thumb.

You can't advertise games well.

If you show just cutscenes, it looks like a terrible movie trailer.

If you show actual gameplay... well, it looks like those 'In Stores This Week!' clips on Xbox Live where you watch someone play the game very badly.

I loved ME, warts and all, but I will be waiting for a GOTY edition, if at all, because if they approach the DLC like they did for Dragon Age they can GTFF.

Yeah, bollocks to this DLC. I might just get it on PC and pirate the DLC (as I intend to do with Dragon Age, which I still have sealed (waiting to get a new graphics card (brackets)))

So £22.99 for the PC version is tempting me, but a bit of me is still worried I'll be missing out if I don't continue my previous game. Has anyone seen lower than £35 for the 360 version?

Yeah, I ordered it for 29.99 from Argos with free delivery.

Edit: they have put up the price since, however.

Is that instore Craster? Online it is still £39.99. I have birthday money to spend and a voucher for a shopping centre with a game in it so I'll probably need to buy it from there.

'Free' DLC is a new character and some missions. The Mimetic Poly-Alloy Prisoner, in other words.

Future paid DLC announced so far is new armour, shotgun, and hovertank. I have a horrible feeling the game will be full of places where you *could* take a shortcut, *if* you had a hovertank.

Huh. I just looked online and it was £29.99

EDIT - ah, feck. I was looking at the PC version.

It will be free on release date. They've been saying that for a few weeks now but everyone seems to be ignoring it. I suspect they pulled it because it's so short of the release date.

Eurogamer's news seemed to suggest they'd released EVERYTHING by mistake, including the supposedly exclusive Blood Dragon armour for Dragon Arse owners.

Well considering that all the DLC is using the shitty EA system of codes instead of Microsoft, I expect you'd only see it for download in game. I'm really huffing about the EA codes and them holding their own DLC. What happens if I delete it for space requirements? Can I re-download it like with Microsoft? Will EA turn the fucking servers off like they've done with countless others of their games?

See, that's a problem with DLC. If you fancy hooking up your old 360 in a decade or so's time to your SPACE HOVER TV, you will be stuck with whatever's on the disc. This is also why I object to Steam.

I'd be wary, I bought my parents one of those from Gamestation and it crapped out within a year. Sony strikes again!
