I hope and expect this will be excellent.

My mum asked me to find the best pre order price.

I'd be very surprised if it's any good. Also, I can already envisage a massive Emperor's New Clothes situation around it, so I'm just not gonna take anything seriously until I 'play' it myself.

Looks a bit like Shenmue (good) with a touch of Fahrenheit (not so good).

A marmite game if ever I saw one. It might be great, but it'll stand or fall on its story.

I just pre'd the SE box for £39.99 from HMV. includes a £10 DLC, soundtrack, and some chronicle thing.

if its ridiculously cheaper to pre at other places before feb 26th, ill cancel, but this set is HMV exclusive at present.

I have a horrible feeling that, like both of Cage's previous games, it'll start off in a great way and draw you into it so effectively that when it all goes absolutely ridiculous you'll keep going. Partly because you're hoping it'll stop being ridiculous, and partly because you can't believe just how ridiculous it's become.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Fahrenheit, for example. It couldn't just be a murder mystery, could it? No, it had to combine 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, The Matrix, The Lawnmower Man, Ghost In The Shell and every other kooky thing he could think of.

But yes, please be good. With more guitar playing and hot pumping sex, and less controller-breaking QTE pummeling.

Fahrenheit was excellent apart from the final fifth of the game, which got increasingly silly, ending in a massive sillygasm.

I think it's already been hinted that it's not going to turn into The Matrix with demons and shit and other such nonsense. From what I've read about the game, it does seem that Cage may have taken the criticisms of Farhenheit on board. I certainly hope so, as that game was awesome up until the final act, which ruined the whole thing.

Don't forget that Omikron: The Nomad Soul did the same thing.

What started out as an excellent police adventure in a brilliant realized future city, complete with a sexy wife, hovercars, police deathbots and David Bowie suddenly went incredibly shit with the appearance of demons, mystical bowls, ancient prophecies and other nonsense.

That preview doesn't sound too good. The controls are annoying and the voice acting is rubbish? So, it's a pretty "game" with a potentially good storyline and poor acting?

From the way I read it the controls are like that so you have two choices - dont hold r2, and your character goes on a set path, at a speed set by the analog stick.
hold r2, and walk where you want.

maybe I read it wrong, it was late.

voice acting is not much of a concern for me. if its that terrible, switch to japanese with subtitles. never hurt my enjoyment of shenmue 2.
as it stands I think they are basing it on a comparison to Uncharted 2 which I havent played.

From the Eurogamer Expo demo, the controls take a very little time to get used to, and then are fine.

During the gratuitous bonking sequence is there a tit mashing minigame where you have to rotate the analogue sticks?

No, the analogue sticks are for nipple tweaking.

That's the second minigame. You have to push the select and start buttons repeatedly one after the other to move your tongue across the devil's doorbell while the sticks are revolved to continue mashing tits (and you go for the nipples by clicking the sticks in, natch).

And just you wait until the Natal version comes out with CO-OP play!

I'd completely forgotten the gratuitous bonking of dead people in fahrenheit.

I now remember why it's one of the very, very few games I've actually traded.

The extended cutscene in which the heroine has many position sex with what is basically a zombie in a subway car in an abandoned station between new ice age New York City? (and doesn't he impregnate her? Do his sperm go 'Eggs!!!' as they swim up her flue?)

Surely that can't have been so awkward for you that it made you uncomfortable enough to not want it in your house any more?

Oh, I jest. Fucking hell, what a game. That's before the QTE involving shagging your ex earlier on, of course.

I wish I could find the Fahrenheit anti-walkthrough (done by the same guy who did the legendary 'crate of boom' Deus Ex one I'm sure) but no luck yet.

Mrs Meaty and I had sat and played through it together, voting on the various decisions and enjoying it. Some of the bits, like having to run Matrix-style through the office dodging giant dust mites had raised eyebrows but we'd tried to look past it. And we'd laughed when it was possible to make Tyler keep shagging his missus (with TV movie-esque sweeping shots of the furniture played) instead of going in to work no matter how many times you switched to Carla and called to nag him.

Because Carla was pretty cool. A smart investigator, stylish without being slutty, I thought gaming had finally developed a decent female protagonist who could take things beyond Lara Croft.

Until I finished one of the various 'days' and was treated to a lengthy cutscene of Carla in the shower, slowly soaping up her ludicrously huge, jouncing, heaving breasts in the shower. And then walking around her apartment in her skimpy underwear. I think there was something then about sharing a glass of wine with her gay neighbour from across the hall but by then the game was dead to us.

Sure enough, soon Lucas' apartment was falling to pieces in a giant vortex, he died and the internet itself manifested itself, came and tried and kill him. I think we only carried on because we couldn't believe it could possibly get any more ridiculous. Jaws firmly on the floor for the subway undead sex scene.

Oh, the beginning bits where you're trying to conceal evidence, trying to lie to the police and all that were excellent. It was the controller-smashing QTEs, irritating stealth sections and general loopyness (loopiness?) of the second half that spoiled it.

Quite, I started off being fairly impressed. But given it was mainly telling a story, I can't imagine the panning a book or film would get were it to have the gripping first half followed by Lucas dying, the internet manifesting itself, trying to kill him and zombie sex between two people who have barely met.

I don't remember the undead zombie subway sex bit in Fahrenheit. I remember quite enjoying it despite it going completely batshit mental in the third act, though.

David Cage does like the boobies, though. There were quite a lot of boobies in Omikron, too.

I've just briefly scanned through the end of fahrenheit on youtube (this guys videos, to be precise)

For some reason, part 2 of the subway section is missing. I wonder whether it's something to do with horrific zombie sex.
Aside from that, the plot is even worse than I remembered.
