So I know that Dimzlez is playing this. I gave it a cursory glance yesterday (it was an Xmas prez) and kind of liked what I saw. Today I got past all the intro mission stuff and got into the main sandbox Nazi killing and it's really rather nice.

It's a little clunky (feels like the first Godfather game at times) but the firefights are good, the infiltration stuff is suitably stealthy and tense and you can climb everywhere which at times makes it feel like Assassin's Creed with guns.

The more I've played it, the more I like it.

There are approximately eleven billion things to destroy, too.

Hmmm. Opinion's soured a little from me. Absolutely woeful friendly AI behaviour. With them randomly getting in your stream of bullets and the main character AI consisting of them running headlong into German patrols and then spending 2-3 minutes flinching as they're shot to bits, falling over a big fat "mission failed SKYLAR has died" writ large on the screen. I've had that dialogue box appear quite often at random while I've not been in a mission, too. Nice to see Pandemic living up to their buggy as fuck reputation.

Plus the voice acting is woeful. "Let moi show you how we do things in Belfast!" shouts southern Oirish accented PROTAGONIST. And the, ahem, "Brit" woman character SKYLAR (HA!) is voice acted by an 'merkin doing an offensively bad accent. Who says "orften"? Really? WHO?!

I think the voice acting is deliberately "bad" as the whole game seems to be a bit of an over-the-top pastiche of the era.

It appears not all of them no. All but two or three in each zone, yes.

I must admit I am a bit tempted by Sean The Irish Bastard in: In (Fuckin') Paris. The hilarious bugs, for whatever reason, tempt me more so.

Have you seen a guard floating in mid air because the game hasn't drawn his watchtower yet?

No, but I've seen machine guns floating in mid air for the same reason. It's still very very good fun. I love(!) how much stuff there is to do. My current fun choice of fun is to find several targets clumped up together and put remote dynamite on as many targets as I can, saunter to a safe distance and watch the glory when they all go boom.

PS3 version of this was £25 in Asda today. Dunno if 360 was the same price.

hmm - the more I play it, the more I realise that it's a massive grind.

if you're not a whore you'll enjoy it but it seems like I've got to take out like 1000 fucking targets which isnt as much fun after the first 100. also I'm thinking of restarting cos I used my silver perk upgrade on something other than collecting nazi vehicles.

Are there GTA-style wanted stars in the form of Swastikas?

1 Swastika: Fat Fritz who gasps and then gives up.
2 Swastikas: Pair of Wehrmacht who shout HALT! HALT! ACHTUNG! Sometimes in a Kubelwagen.
3 Swastikas: Gestapo in a sinister black Mercedes
4 Swastikas: Elite Waffen SS troops arrive in a Hanomag
5 Swastikas: Panzer tanks
6 Swastikas: Stuka!!!!

No, but Shaaaaaaarn is awesome at shouting "DAT WAS A DEADLY SHAT!!!" at the top of his lungs as you silenced pistol kill a sentry while wearing a disguise.

Does that alert the guards?

Does SHORN then exclaim "Ah feck just can't control mah enthusiasm some times, so it is, faith and begorrah etc" as the entire arrondissement closes in to stamp repeatedly on his head?

I collected the nazi cars, it wasn't too bad.

how the hell do I get alarm level 5? I stayed on an AA canon blowing shit off the road and out of the skies for about 10 mins and only got level 4!

You have to get the story to a certain point. I've just got a level 5 alarm after getting to Paris section 2 in the story.

ah right - I'll go there after I've finished off all the white dots.

btw - there's a white dot on an arch thing in area 1. I can't climb it so I'm wondering if you've grabbed that one.

If it's the arch thing I'm thinking of (there's 2), one's a scenic spot, the other a blue crate. Both cases I took running jumps off nearby buildings.

ah... you do have to complete every side mission if you want the 'Liberator of...' achievements.

The main missions in this are really good. It reminds me of Freedom Fighters.

yo Dimzlmlez

how did you do the mission where you have to rescue the cowardly German guy?

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Looks like there are few ways to do it.

I ended up nicking a uniform shooting the guy to the far left of the front of the building with my silenced pistol. Dropped an RDX near there and ran away. Threw a grenade near it which brought over five or so guards. Detonated the RDX and then had enough of a gap to walk in.

Stealth killed the first flamethrower prick, nabbed the guy, drove away.

Irritatingly, it's like the 5th mission I've passed without losing my disguise. Still no achv for it though.

The guy in the cell in the middle of the huge complex/palais?

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I used the cable that adjoins to the buildings to the north. Silence pistol killed all the guards overlooking and walked out with him.

"Eez eet overrrr?"
"Nah. Aim ornly jast startin!"

With the final achievement called "The Legend Begins". More like "The Legend is Delivered. Stillborn."

well done on the max. I'm a couple of days behind cos of bastard fucking work and their 'let's open even though any one of us could be one of those things, Macready' cold weather policy.

Things get sooooo much better once you get the rocket launchers.

the main missions have been brilliant so far and no DLC rapeage thanks to Pandemic going tits up. A 1000 that will stay 1000.

Unlike fucking Borderlands which will drown us in shit DLC until we fucking curse the day the game was made.

Sometimes but sometimes not (see FIFA 09's DLC for example, I left that at a hard-earned 1000).

But the problem here was that everyone said the Borderlands DLC was good. When it really wasn't.

You ought to get the second, Dave. It's more Bordering of the Lands at the end of the day.

It is sorely tempting to investigate this game... but then the last time I tried a game I wasn't really bothered about just because the Hive raved about it was, well, Borderlands
