Sky won't recognise my password. Nor any of my details to allow me to reset my password, and when I phone them up they tell me I've got my mother's maiden name wrong.

They should accept other things, like the last bill amount, or the details of the account the DD comes from, or the last box office purchase. Tell them that they're idiots and swear a lot. That helps too.

I invariably give up after about 10 minutes of trying to pound some understanding into their heads.

On a vaguely-related note, I tried to reset my Mum's Yahoo account password last week as it wasn't letting her log in. No matter which option you choose, you're led through the same security stuff of DOB/Postcode, but then onto a security question asking for 'Your Father's middle name' which we'd never set at any point. So, after a few failed attempts, it kindly locked the account for 24 hours. And, according to the FAQ on Yahoo, if you don't know the answer to your security question, that's it, no account access anymore.

So, after 24 hours, tried again with her original password which had started working again. Once we'd logged in, it then asked us to set some security questions/answers so the middle name stuff from the day before was utter rubbish.

I had to ring NPower last night to arrange a boiler repair. I got through in seconds, the chap on the other end was cheerful, knowledgeable, friendly, polite and not too chatty. I was surprised.

My dad phoned sky a few weeks ago, he couldn't remember what password he'd set up but the person on the phone kept giving him clues until he got it. ?:|

I take it you guys who are watching films on Sky Player are subbed to the Movies package? It's next to useless for me as a basic account holder. I can pretty much watch UK Gold and that's it. Even the on-demand stuff for Sky 1 is just shit like Ross Kemp's Super Striker.

I think that one will get quite a lot of use here. The crime and investigation channel too. ;)

Edit - I'm currently on Batman, having worked my way through the Addams Family and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Not bad. :)

I'm a little confused. I want to watch Sky sports 1 for a month, starting at five today, because in that month there are two Nottingham Forest games on it. I don't care about anything else on that channel or any other channels. As far as I can tell, I'm being forced into buying the 'entertainment pack' which is fifteen pounds for a load of fucking shit I'd never watch in a million years, then a tenner on top of that for the sky sports 1 channel.

So that's £25 for one month, divided by two is £12.50 per Forest game. Well, it's Xmas and I'd spend that getting to and staying in a pub anyway per game, so I want to go for it. I've registered whit sky layer and just need to pay for the shite and the sky sports 1 channel now, but here's the thing - I can't find out how long a month is - 30 days? 31? 4 weeks? In the terms and conditions it says I can only cancel once the last payment has been taken out, I'm only wanting this one month's worth so will I need to 'cancel' despite the fact that I'm only paying for a month in the first place anyway, or will it take more months off me?

/edit yeah, it says

Quote:
6.4 At the end of the first Subscription Period, we will automatically renew your subscription for the following Subscription Period and MPP collect your Subscription Payment from your Service Payment account. This process will continue for each of the following Subscription Periods until you tell us that you want to cancel the Live TV Service.

but then on the screen where I'm trying to pay for it, it says
Quote:
No long term commitments: You can subscribe for as little as one month.

So, y'know, which is it then?

I phoned them up and asked about it and they were REALLY HELPFUL and answered after about twenty seconds and explained it all to me then wished my team god luck in the games.

I'm a bit frightened by that, actually 8)

O2 broadband were brilliant for me. They investigated a long standing fault that went back over my last two ISPs that ended up being a piece of internal (but BT-owned) wiring; they they happily forked out for Openreach to come and fix the wiring. I couldn't have asked for more.

Awesome - it works!
I spent most of last night trying to convince my broadband to go faster by alternately shouting at the Indian AOL broadband helpline and rearranging the internal phone wiring and chopping various bits of it off.

Eventually I got the modem to sync at 3400 or so, but the speed test thing was still showing 120 k/s. Hilarious. Tech support eventually did something (after telling me four separate lies in the duration of a 5 minute call) and it suddenly popped up to just under 2000 on the speed test. Not bad for a line with only 512 estimated.

So then I watched Alien3 with no pauses. Hurrah!

Question: Now I've registered my xbox on my friend's sky account, can they still register their own PC on it at the same time? They haven't tried to use it yet but it'd be nice to know if it will allow it or not.

By "excellent" do you mean "so rage inducing that you vowed to leave them on the spot, and then did so*"?

*Can someone recommend a reasonable ISP please? Considering combined phone and internets. My line is non-LLU and won't go much faster than 2 meg but I want at least 10GB a month and no daft penalties if I go over it.

Plus.net?

I now have skyplayer on my xbox, with everything except the cartoon channels, which is nice. Watched Airplane 2 to celebrate (it was a bit crap compared to the first one anything vaguely amusing).

Live TV on the Xbox seems to use a fair bit of bandwidth compared to the website, I have to stream on the lowest setting as opposed to medium or high on the PC.

Definitely not O2 then, their non-unbundled (bundled?) service, Access, is horrible nowadays. On any non-llu area I'd be wary now of a 12 month contract with anyone, there are places out there who for a one-off fee of about £40 you get a rolling monthly unmetered contract at 25 quid. I'm seeking one of those out next until standards and consistency settle down a bit. Seems like bundled providers are going from good service to fucking shitarsed service very quickly these days, better to pay not to be tied in to anyone likely to change or anything crippled.

I was on Zen for quite a long time , month by month contract , download limit of 50GB and you pay £1 a gig if you go over (you can check how close you get on their website) - downside was £35 a month and i only got 6mb download speed from them.

I moved to O2 about 6 months ago but that was mainly for the LLU stuff so i pay £17 for about 16MB down and 'unlimited' and i'm signed up with them for a year.

Would there be anything stopping someone, say, letting me log in to this as them to watch a movie, and then them use sky as normal, or would doing so fuck up their sky/sky player for them?

I think this will be fine as it sounds like the way I use the Sky Player.

I have a friend who pays for Sky monthly and has a Sky box in his living room next to his Xbox. He checks his account online and therefore has a username/password.

He’s given me the user name and password which I have put into my Xbox which allows me to watch the Sky player.

Now, he did already register his Xbox with the Sky player just to have a look so before I was able to register my Xbox with his account, I had to de-register his Xbox. This was simply done online under his account settings.

This means you can only register one Xbox at a time with each paid account. This may answer Kalmars question too.

Hope this helps!!

Same here.
Bear in mind that you'll only get the movies if they pay for the movie channels.

It's odd that Sky1 isn't on it though. I wouldn't want to watch that except I would have liked to see Bill Bailey's programme that was on last night.

Some of Sky1 is on it. Basically it looks like they've been utterly unable to secure licensing to show anything that they've only got redistribution rights for, rather than the homegrown stuff. So what's on there is the shite.
