I probably would, but only provided I still had enough money to leave to my family after I was gone if I lost the bet.

Just read that story myself. I would criticise his spending choice but like he says, it doesn't really matter if he's about to pop it. I'd try to do something slightly more worthy with it though. I'd have also bet more than £100, because like he said, what is there to lose?

I wonder if the idea of winning the bet actually went towards him living well past the doctor's estimates?

I do. Every Christmas day for the last 14 years. And many New years too.

So far, I have pretty much broken even, but this is mainly due to me getting an absolute hammering last new years, as before then I was up by quite a bit.

Even though I'm quite good at bluffing, I wouldn't want to do it any more than I currently do - at that point, it would stop being a game.

No, betting on roulette and cards. With money.

Best I managed to do was the christmas of 2001. Arrived with no money, got 20p out of the christmas pudding, and gambled my way up to £50.

Worst was last new year, where I managed to lose an awful lot of money through a run of bad luck. I forget how much, probably on purpose.

Surely the gentleman was gambling on his life, rather than with.. /pedant
