Sitting on my arris for a week playing the shoot-yer-mums (this year: Mushi Futari), and getting really boozed. Din-dins is quite splendid, too.

Boxing Day is my favorite thing about Christmas.

Everything is just better on Boxing Day, a lot more enjoyable and relaxed.

Boxing Day > Christmas Day.

I really, really enjoyed my Christmas work party this year. Seven people - all four of us, plus three spouses - at a lovely 14th century pub with Bishop's Finger on tap and good, proper pub grub to eat and taxis both ways. It was excellent.

Still didn't quite vote for it, though.

Christmas is entirely about time off from work, seeing family (my elder brother in particular, as he lives 200 miles away) and giving presents to people. I try to put a lot of thought into my gifts, and I love seeing people's faces when they open the wrapping.

There doesn't appear to be an option on the list for 'Stollen', and as such this poll is meaningless.

So is "dressing up in a santa outfit, breaking into the neighbour's house, and furiously masturbating over all their presents". I'd rather the two were not collated.

I hated my works Christmas do... a night up Broad Street in Birmingham.

All standing around, not being able to talk and looking out in case someone wants to start a fight with you. No thanks...

Spending time with family wins it for me!

My "other" is decent gaming time. Over Christmas is usually one of the few times of the year I get to play games most days and for more than a few minutes.

I chose spending time with friends, the Christmas meal, booze, waking up on Christmas day and being off work.

I have never particularly enjoyed Christmas day once I was grown up but this year I am going to the in laws (can I call them that?). It's the first time ever I've not had to deal with my mum on Christmas day and I am majorly excited about that, plus my girlfriends family are super duper awesome and so I know it's going to be brilliant :) I'm so excited I might burst before then!
My favourite bit of the meal is the pigs in blankets and the stuffing. I love being able to drink as much as I want and not have to work and I am going to be majorly excited on Christmas morning. Oh, but everyone has to hope we don't get a white Christmas because we have a 3 hour car journey to get to Fife and snow would really make that not fun!
I'm so excited! :nerd: :) :luv:

I will also be shooting you in the face.*

* If I get a console and if I get an Amstrad Live subscription and if I have the right games. Which given past form in the 8 bit era I'll be playing the obscure but fun games such as Fiendish Freddies Big Top Of Fun while everyone else plays R-Type.

I like the last week of work, it's generally a pretty busy week but you know come Friday lunchtime, you're going home until the Jan 4th and our subcontractors come round and give us bottles of alcohol all week too! Although the others have a lot to do this year because one of our hauliers took us out on Saturday night....They are owned by a brewery. Who own a lot of the local pubs. I sepnt £1 all night, and that was on a cloakroom ticket. We went out at 7pm and I got home at 4am, great stuff! Then it's my works party on Friday night, which will be ok I guess going on previous years efforts.

The time off is the best bit about Christmas. Family Christmases are ace and this year we're not going anywhere on Christmas day so it'll just be us 4, making a mess, sitting in front of the fire and at least 2 of us will be getting drunk. It'll be great. Until the 27th....then I'll be wishing the schools opened a week early.

Waking up in the morning and opening my eyes slowly hoping that the light is that funny over-bright light coming from below the window that means snows. I love the tree and decorating the tree. I love mulled wine and trying to juggle all of the components for Christmas meal. I love the fact that I must make every conceivable part of the Christmas meal only though it is only ever Craig and I that spend the day together.

This year I am most looking forward to opening a gift from my brothers. They have just started their A-levels and are now getting that weekly staying-on reward thingamagig, and as the family never has any money they've never had spending money before, really (they've both done little jobs, but the money was never enough for anything other than footballs boots, etc. This year I was surprised when a gift arrived from them. They went out Christmas shopping with no guidance or help for the first time. I have literally no idea what it might be, so I am looking forward to it.

We had that strange light the other day & I jumped out of bed all excited. Turned out there were no snows, only Mister Fog :(

I always have high expectations for Christmas and love the whole feel of it but lately it's seemed to be not as good as it should be. The lack of snow is one thing. As is not having much to play with on christmas these days.

"They" normally won't let me take the Solstice off. Luckily I'm mind damaged for the last 2 years, so I have.

What is the law regarding things like that anyway? It is a bit rubbish that most people are given a Christian holiday even if it isn't a religion they are part of, especially considering Pagans don't get Solstice but most of our Christian festivals are in times of the year specifically to undermine/overpower the Pagan festivals.

I am quite surprised (and disappointed (DRAHMA)) that we've got, what 5 threads? about Christmas and this is the first time the lameness of religion and how we're all hypocrits has come up! What is wrong with you people!? There's no better time for an arguement than christmas! It's like tradition!! Get on it!

I love the Christmas holiday as well, I was just musing over the fact that it is quite outdated in multicultural Britain. That's a rubbish argument though given the history and origins of the Christmas festival. So I win this argument. I also lose this argument. But then I win overall because I consulted the independant judge, me.

Theoretically, but in practice harder. My girlfriend's not affected, but my German teacher (who is Austrian) is rather annoyed that her family's Christmas is being messed up by her son's employer not believing him that German-speaking people have Christmas on the 24th, and don't care about 25th at all much. That's hardly obscure cultural knowledge. Bosses, eh?

What grounds did they refuse the holiday request on? I can't see any reason for UK companies to automatically keep track of every nation/sect's special religious/celibratory days - if your special day doesn't fall on a UK bank holiday, book it off (nice and early if it's a busy time of year) as holiday.

Then again, I can see why he'd have difficulty getting the time off, as lots of other people would want to not be at work Christmas Eve.

I quite like the US system of having loads of bank holidays, and you get to choose a certain number of them to be off work.

Well, maybe, and I'd agree with you if you meant festivities like Hanukkah which itself is different dates each year, but then the Germanic Christmas is only one day 'out' from the Anglophone one, and hardly obscure.

I like the rest-of-Europe system of workers generally having more holiday time. ;)
