I don't know if the UK's media have been reporting on this already, but this year's "chosen" candidates to take on the X-Factor this Christmas are quite random, and at the same time a bit of an awesome alternative.


Over 520,000 already joined as I type - let's just hope that actually translates to sales.

The thing is whilst it's giving people a feeling that they're fucking someone over (Cowell) I just see it as paying the money to someone else who is also rich and doesn't need it.

So to me it's just a ploy to make someone else rich. I mean, seriously -



The thing is if people are fed up of the act being number one then the obvious solution is not to buy it. Not buy a song by someone else. So it smacks of advertising to me.

Just seems like a big bunch of people who not only don't like the X factor but also don't like the fact that millions of people actually do.

The people who are fed up with the X Factor hegemony aren't going to buy the X Factor single anyway.

They're buying another song so another song may be #1, or so they hope.

And of course it's advertising. You need to publicise an idea, or nobody will get behind it (they won't know it exists).

I would gladly put money on this NOT getting to be the Christmas number one.

Personally, if I was going to buy a record to try to beat the X Factor winner to the Christmas number one, it would be this one.

It's a bit like going to a child's birthday party and pussing all over their presents because Ben 10 is like way too commercial and they should have been given Stikfas instead.

I don't care what gets to number one. I never know what's in the charts, anyway, and only find out what's number one by people making a deal of it, not necessarily from hearing it.

If too many people have that attitude, of course it won't.

I'm not going to be in the country, so it's not really an issue to me.

People buying RatM isn't going to make fewer people buy the X-Factor song, so is there another financial gain from getting the number 1 spot?

Yeah by doing what the tell you. I can't remember being told to buy the x-factor single, though. Or listening to music and chasing meaningless numbers by listening to music because you're a subhuman who likes numbers and are a cunt or something.

Granted, but it's would be nice to tell them all that actually, they can't control the charts just because they have a TV show.

They don't control the charts though. It's cynical, true. But you don't *have* to buy anything. ITV is a commercial TV station, many people enjoy the x-factor, even if it is just a 4 month long advert for the single (and the album of covers) at the end.

And, why Rage Against the Machine? Why not a Christmas song FFS? I would've nominated The Darkness' "Don't let the Bells End", a marvellous tune from a few years back.

I bought the new OK Go single (off iTunes).

I bought Killing In The Name when it first came out. I'm not buying it again.

I've bought singles from iTunes, but I don't think I've bought a CD single in the last year.

Not me, I like chips so I always buy suppers.

I bought Pearl Jam's The Fixer as a single a few months back.

Now I can't stop iTunes putting it on my iPod even though it puts the full album on there as well. Yay two copies?!

Being a metullurgist, we generally get EPs and MCDs instead of singles. However if Katatonia get some singles out from the new album I'd be up their trousers like a whippet.
