Just configured this - and it's faster than BT's effort by far!

It's not going to be long before the entire internet is in Google's datacenters, is it?

I'll have to have a go at this. I presume it's fairly easy; I don't mind fiddling around in the router etc.

It is. Just go into your IPv4 settings, and change your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and alternate 8.8.4.4 . Then disable and re-enable your connection.

I never, ever, ever thought that someone would deliberately make their DNS server ip addresses so easily memorable.

It is quicker though. I like.

I came across problems with OpenDNS. For some reason it didn't like the BBC News website, which I read a lot. GoogleDNS doesn't mind.

They'll be better at optimising for popular sites won't they?

You would think so. Which is why I was amazed when even this forum seemed quicker.

We need Gaywood style before and after tests.

I've tried it. I am normally on Bulldog/Pipex dns and I notice no difference to that.

I've just done it, and I don't whether it's just because I'm expecting it to be faster.. but pages do seem to load a lot quicker.

So what's the science behind that then?

Tellingly, I can't remember which computer I put this on. There's no noticable difference (BT as isp)

Can people tell the difference between this and a DNS made of coathangers in a double blind test?

I thought most PCs have a local DNS cache so surely you'll only notice any speed difference if you're going onto new sites.
