Am thinking of getting some promotional mousemats. Mrs Chinny says this is a waste of money and nobody uses mousemats anymore.

What would you lot do if one of your suppliers or potential suppliers sent you a nice mousemat? Perhaps one of those special optical ones?

I have a mousemat and it has the pictures of 5 of MrsA's sisters kids on it.

No one uses mouse mats anymore.

Brand some pens/scribble pads.

Waste of time. Gets pens made instead. I have loads of promotional pens and they're always really useful.

Yes, but it would have to be better than my gel one which also has a wristrest. Our crappy promotional ones end being used as giant coasters.

I agree with pens being better, pens have a habit of being stolen so the more you have, the better.

I still use a mousemat -- a Ratpad (http://www.ratpadz.com/) in fact. I find them a nicer, more slippery surface than my desktop.

Pens would be cheaper as well.

Perhaps its just because I use a mousemat myself. Gel one for home and an optical one a client gave me at the office.

I prefer a bit of resistance on whichever surface I use for a mouse. Desks are usually out of the question, with their slightly woody texture, so I use mouse mats if I don't have my graphics tablet set up.

I wouldn't opt for branded mouse mats, mind. Cheap pens still function, cheap mouse mats are a pain to use.

I don't use a mousemat either. As I'm an IT support bod, I see many different people's desks. Second in the disgusting stakes, behind the space bar of most keyboards, is a finger jam encrusted mousemat. Ick.

You know what I like? Key ring pens. Useful.

You want branded post-its I reckons.

I get truckloads of branded promotional junk every day which I dish out round the office. The thing people always take is post it style pads. But get adhesive ones, not just a pad of small notes.

Some people like desk pads (as in the big A3 ones with a calendar on the bottom/side), but they polarise opinion in my office. It's mostly the people who use the phone a lot that like them.

Pens tend to get a "meh" in my place.

Oh, little desk calendars are popular too.

Ooh yes. I like those. Good for doodling on and when you've filled it... tear off a page and get a blank canvas. Work as rudimentary mousemat also.

Branded USB sticks are always nice too.

I voted no, but then I use a trackball, so have advanced beyond your primitive mouse mat needs.

I agree.. Pens and post it notes always go down well. Whether anyone pays attention to them I don't know, but people always use them.

I use a mouse mat at home but only because someone bought it me as a present.. Looking around my office now, I can only see one mousemat out of about 20 people.

I voted yes, but the post-it idea seems better.

OR, small round white coffee-sweetener pills with your company's name* on one side and a VW logo on the other.

*if I guessed correctly.

Aye, I still use a mat with a wrist rest, but pens win. Just don't get short ones or folk'll think you've robbed the bookies :DD

Yeah , I'd love a new mousemat, an optical one pls kthx.

We get sent some promotional tat from time to time. As already said, pens and paper-stuffs are always good and get used, but some of the novelty items like stress balls or fridge magnets tend to hang around in the offices and labs for a long time. T shirts (and depending on the size of 'branding', bags) are some of the worst things I've been sent, and I tend to shun people that actually wear them

Branded dart board. Everybody likes to play darts and having one with your company name and number on it for preferred clients would be ace.

Coffee mats are good, and will always be used (until your brand name disappears under the tea stains). But mugs, whilst more expensive, would be even more handy.

Anyway I'm pretty sure the looming grizzly face of Lord Sir Alan Sugar is copyright of him, and you shouldn't go putting it on mousemats without permission.

Oddly enough I do have such items but they are reserved for my own use. I've just ordered up some new polo shirts, jumper and a fleece that are in the process of being branded up.

I'm now looking at pens. Have emailed off for a quote and samples. Want something nice enough that people will hold onto them without breaking the bank.

I'm not sure where we got ours from, but these style of pens, two-piece barrel with integrated clip and twist action, seem to last well, be useable, have no lids to lose and tend not to break easily. I'll seek them out over most other pens.

Oh, and squishy 'stress reliever' things tend not to get thrown out too quickly either, because they tend to get thrown in a lot.
