When I start playing in the mud competetively, I'm going to need to be able to talk to my winch bitch while he is at the top of a hill and I'm upside down at the bottom.

So, two-way communications, then - and I don't know fuck all about it beyond that this set is meant to be very good and also costs about 5x what I want to spend.

Important bits:
* We've both got to be able to talk without pressing buttons to do so
* The headset has to fit inside a helmet

Not-so-important bits:
* A car charger would be nice
* Waterproof would obviously be beneficial (although we could just wear them inside our overalls)

I think you should reconsider this whole enterprise.

Professional mud-wrestlers very rarely need to get winched out at the end. All the other mud wrestlers will make fun of you.

CHeck out motorbike communications, rider and passenger style.

Although, it has occurred to me, if a rider to passenger interlink has a range somewhat larger that 3 feet, you've got to question the skill level of the market..

"I'm in the fucking hedge, again!"

"What?"

"No, 100 yards, down from you now, on you left, look for the severed arm"

A decent motorcycle comms kit is what you probably want. They work on the PMR 443 band, as all license-free talkies, and are hands free.

However I did notice in my local tool shop, a pair of *TEENY* walkie talkies, for cheap, I almost bought them just because they were cute. I'll look if they have voice-activated-transmit if you want?

Aye, I've looked at them.

I'd be surprised, but you never know.

By the way, if you drop the "inside the helmet" requirement and work with a radio clipped to your overalls, almost any pocket PMR will work with a headset attachment, and will do voice-activated.

edit: re-read the original post - OK, that's what you meant anyway? So, yeah. Motorolas are good, pay about £60 for a good pair, with mains charger.

I've got a pair of Uniden that I don't need or use any more, free if you'll pay postage charges.

They're about the same size as most hand-held walkies, use PMR 885 and have 8 main channels and something like 60 subchannels of each of those. I don't have the headsets for them any more but they have the 2.5mm headset jack on the top of them, and I still have the charger. Here they are.

And they do voice detection? Because if they do, you know, 'yes please'.

Dug 'em out last night and they seem to work OK, don't have a headset to test the "voice to talk" thing but I'm positive I used them in that way on an airsoft game once. If not, send 'em back to me and I'll refund your postage :)

Probably be about £7.50 to post?
