For Christmas, Ange and I are buying ourselves a widescreen TV for the bedroom. I don't know what the best size would be, perhaps 23" or 26"? Are there any decent bargains around at the moment?

Go and look in the shops to see what the pictures are like and how you feel about the size. The new Chinny TV came from Sainsburys because for boring reasons I couldn't go mail order.

How far away from the screen would you be? My parents have a 26" in their pretty small living room, sitting maybe 7' away from the screen and it look fine. Can't really make out the difference between dvd and HD though.
edit: and bare in mind, bezels look bigger and depth looks thicker on a smaller TV

No more than 6' away. Currently we have an old 14" portable so perhaps even 23" would be reasonable - I don't want it to dominate the room. I've got an LG 32" as my gaming TV and it's brilliant - is £191 a decent price for a 23"?

Fuck me, 26" is 'small'? That's the size we have in our living room.

Good price, LG too. Are you just using it for TV and DVDs?

We've got a 32" in our living room and it seems tiny now. We don't even have a particularly large living room, either.

Mine's 32" as well, in a 10' by 13' living room. It's more than enough and couldn't imagine anything bigger in there. People with 50" monsters in box rooms are a mystery to me.

My 32" does 1080p though, natch

I think it's just that in the last few years people have realised that they can save money by creating home cinemas rather than forking out nearly a tenner each time to watch a film.

Heh, when we were looking at buying a new tellybox (why we did now, I can't recall) I made cardboard ones to see how much space tehy took up, and decided 26" was optimum for the space available. It does 1040-something.

We never watch TV downstairs at all these days. Either in the bedroom or in the back bedroom. I'm almost tempted to get rid of my living room TV and use the space better (it's a 32" CRT).

If I we're you Myps I'd throw it on the sidewalk or leave it near the freeway.

I have a 37" in my bedroom and a 46" in my sitting room. But I hate going to the cinema.

Don't get one too big.
as it'll ruin the picture if the bedroom is not massive.

I use a 22" lcd monitor as my TV and I sit/lay about 10ft away and it's fine.

A friend of mine just started uni and got one of these

Which he said was exceptional.

I've got a 26" one right at the foot of my bed (well, perhaps about a foot from the end of my bed) and that seems fine to me.

Welcome back, by the way.
