If you shoot an indirect unit (like rockets, or artillery) with another indirect unit, will the target fire back?

No.

Ranged fire is never countered, even if you're firing on a ranged unit.

Image FTW.

Following on from that, are there any circumstances where a normal-fire unit won't be able to shoot back against another normal-firing unit, not counting lack of ammo or invalid targets (soldiers vs bomber jet, for example).
There isn't, is there? If a unit can shoot another then the target unit can always shoot back.

Although, in fairness, once this bit is done I've only got window dressing left.
I'll need to hit Zardoz up for some pretty.

Unless they're French.

And I appreciate the compliment but I don't think you'd suit a Zardoz makeover, you don't have the bone structure.

Another one!
You know the 'low on bullets / fuel' warning - can you see that on enemy units?

Although I may be getting confused with another game here, did one of the COs have a super power ability thing that did a 'scan' of enemy units, giving a bit of info about their status?

Yes you can , unless fog of war is in play (or the other CO can 'hide' that as one of their powers)

In AW1 and 2 any character can 'see' the enemies health / fuel / ammo status unless they are hidden (through fog of war or underwater submarines)

Sonya (yellow comet CO) has a special power to reveal the whole map in fog of war situations , and her troops *do not* show their status (so you cant even tell if that missile unit only has a single hit point left).

I'm not as sure about the DS versions but on the GBA ones she's the only person with that ability.

Do bases, airports ports and workshops generate income? Or just cities?

I'd be more worried by Disney when I make the Mickey SS squad sprites.

No, but someone really expressive described it to me once ;)

I'm playing it a lot at the moment. My DS is in my bag with it in. But I can only play it outside of work hours. You'd be surprised how complicated it is.

Hello again!
This is nearly finished now. It's a bit rough around the edges and the Zardy-Wardy graphics haven't arrived in my sweaty inbox yet, but it's nearly at Alpha Test phase.
It is, in case you haven't guessed, Advance Wars DS, but on the Internet (and without some stuff. Like COs. And powers. And units that can hide). Would anyone be interested in being a tester? All you have to do is play it and tell me what goes wrong.

It's all NervousPete's fault.

If it can be played on an ibook that is.

I love advance wars me.

I'll find it hard to play PvP though, if it is real time.

I'd love to test this shizzle.

Does it matter that I've never so much as even seen a screenshot of Advance Wars?

Hello, kindly folk.

I've fixed (I think) a load of bugs with this. Any kindly folk that want to join in are encouraged to either let me know, or, if you're about from last time, just go back to the same place.

Your logins will still work, if you can remember them.

It may well be borked this morning - i have two games and when i select them there is no 'background' to the maps - there are simply 2 characters on screen (mine and the enemies) and nothing else ?
