Would anyone be interested in a four-week stock car oval racing championship?

We tend to have a right laugh when we do it in Forza but:
-to conserve time for other racing, tend to not exceed 10 laps
-people then bitch that they've only hit their stride after three laps
-and that there's no way of using a pit stop strategy to catch up if there's only 10 laps

Therefore, I propose we have a proper, separate oval racing event. Using the newly discovered stock cars. I'm thinking we'd do it on Sundays, about half past eight lasting until half nine or ten, which should be quick enough for you to make time but not long enough for you to moan that you have to change the baby/scrape your molars/put the cat to sleep/masturbate furiously/service the wife and thus can't spare the time.



The race calendar would be:
15 November: Benchmark Speedway (30 laps)
22 November: Motegi Speedway (50 laps)
29 November: Sedona Speedway (50 laps)
6 December: Sunset Valley Speedway (50 laps)

(preliminary) car rules:
-Must use the Dodge Charger Stock Car, Ford Fusion Stock Car or Chevrolet Monte Carlo Stock Car.
-Car must be UNMODIFIED. Yes, you can upgrade R3 class cars now, but we want a level playing field.
-Car MUST be decorated in a cool, ORIGINAL race livery (so no buying Mello Yello/Dale Earnhardt off the storefront). Anyone turning up in a white car is clearly a loser and will be disqualified as such.

(preliminary) race rules:
-races are 50 laps, except Benchmark which is 30 due to its length
-simulation damage, simulation tires/fuel to force pit stops, and to keep contact to a minimum.
-any and all other assists you like are fine if you want to use them!
-scoring will be determined based on the number of participants, to ensure even if you come last you still get at least one point.
-if you don't turn up, you don't get any points.
-revenge crashing is STRONGLY discouraged!
-proper race etiquette is required - give way to someone lapping you, don't disupt other cars while you are entering/exiting the pits.

How long does it take to do one lap?

30 seconds, give or take. One of these races is about as long as one of the endurance events, though likely less.

Put me down for it but I think this might only really work when more people have the game. If there were just four or five of us I can't see fifty laps of an oval being very interesting.

This is testing the waters more than anything. The length of the race is so if you do bin it you can go into the pits and get your car sorted out and still have a chance to catch up, as the biggest gripe when we do the oval races during 'normal' Forza nights is that one mishap and you're out.

I would enter this Forza thing because I like boring repetitive stuff, but I only have a white car

Well, it's not for two weeks, you've got plenty of time to buy one of the cars and paint it up nice. Plus myp will definitely be up for this (when's he back anyway)

I'm also up for this, but have really only just started Forza 3 so don't know how far I am off purchasing one of the required cars.

The cars are about 150,000 credits. The game downright throws cash at you, so earning it shouldn't be a problem. Hell, in two weeks time I should have a lot more money so any of you who can't be bothered to play but want to partake could be gifted with on. You could also, in a pinch, select one of the plain ones from the arcade garage but I was really hoping for a colourful grid of cars with amusing sponsor stickers and such.

Just tested each track's lap times.
Sunset is 0'45"
Motegi is 0'37"
Sedona is 0'32"
Benchmark is quite long, a lap is 1'12" by my reckoning so fewer laps for it... how does 25 sound? And still 50 for the rest?

In the (unlikely, I think) event that more than 8 people turn up we could toss a coin or something, or have a second race event so at least you get to play.

This would be an easy and fun inclusion in the Forza online game modes, I dont know why they havent done this. May be throw in a few ramps and stuff just for general Burnout Paradicesk pissing about.

Wouldn't it be because proper deformable car wreck details would be a nightmare to transmit over 8 players? I'm pretty sure that's what the makers were complaining about when modelling car damage in a normal single player race.

Um, no. The whole point of this is that it's a race series, there's four races, you'll get points based on your performance in each race and whoever has the most points at the end of it all is the winner. Extra people signing up is pointless as unless someone constantly fails to turn up then they'll be scuppered for a chance of winning, in which case that someone might as well have no signed up in the first place. A 'second race event' is silly too because I seriously doubt we'll ever get more than two or three extra people and who is going to look after them, host their server, track their points?

OK, understood. Stuff keeps coming up for me at the moment though so in case I miss any sessions take me out and give my place to Wullie. Stupid Forza not-16-player.
