Next week it will be nine years since I snapped my ankle in a horrific booze related rescuing kittens from a fire accident and it's still gives me an enormous amount of pain. 2 plates, 9 pins and 27 stitches held it together for the 8 months I was on crutches. Since then it regularly cramps up and leaves me hobbling around for a few hours. The upshot of all of this wonky ankle is that my knees are now completely shot as they had to compensate for my gammy limp.

Enough of me moaning/blogging, hope the hospikal sorts you out Meaty. I wonder if they'll refer you to a physio for some of the movement issue that you have?

a friend of mine cut off his thumb and 2 fingers on a circular saw about three years ago. They haven't grown back yet.

How did you smash your finger?

I remain optimistic about my arm. My patience is wearing a little, after 13 months, but I'm still hopeful that, even if I regain no more movement, the constant dull aches will subside. Oh well.

With a mallet. It was 22 December, I had spent two days building a new shelving unit and I was assembling it in the sitting room ready to put it in place. Basically the top part had routed channels to accept the uprights and it was proving reluctant to fit properly (softwood is notorious for this) and I was using another piece of wood and a mallet to encourage it in. I basically lost my temper and was smashing this as hard as I could and hit the tip of my left index finger as hard as I could with a mallet and broke the tip off the bone. It hurt. I spent Christmas unable to drink as the bastards at A&E put me on 3500mg of antibiotics for ten days.

Here's the shelving unit - can't find any pictures of my finger :)

Crumbs. In fact, crumbs at everyone's injuries (I'm sure Myfinger will be along to tell us about his knee). I'm just frustrated by it, when we were moving the couch out of the living room for the carpet fitters I got really angry and Mrs Meaty didn't understand why. I explained that before I would have just crouched down, grabbed one end of it and lifted. But I can't really do that at the moment (or, I fear, any more) and it's a horrible feeling. It reminds me that I'm not as young as I used to be (yes yes, 29, don't know how good I've got it, you DREAM of being 29 again, etc etc), and that week cooped up in the house fearing having to go up the stairs to piss scared the crap out of me when I thought of being like that all the time.

Nah, I'd never wear trainers to the pub. But yeah that's pretty much what happened, floppy foot etc.

I see that you helped (just like my friends did) by grabbing a camera!

I feel a bit queasy reading all this, and also very fortunate to date. Sympathies to all who are still suffering, apart from the ones I've decided are just being moaning wusses :)

Someone needs to re-post that Alex Zanardi story from a couple of months back for positive vibes.

That picture makes me feel ill, like when Eduardo broke his leg. Craig watched that clip over and over saying 'what? I can't se anything that bad', whilst I felt feint, before one day, about a week later and seeing a clip somewhere crying "Oh my GOD!" and realising that legs aren't supposed t point in that direction.

Freaky you should mention that, I had typed something about how I wretched when I watched Eduardo's leg snap on MotD but deleted it for some reason. Hope it doesn't unsettle you too much to know you might share a brain with a weirdo :p

I remember the David Busst thing too, but mercifully managed to avoid seeing any proper close-ups.

Aye, but then I did some first aid and was credited with actually saving his foot, which gets me beer for life, reckon.

Somehow many years on it doesn't have any effect. Maybe it's the fact that Dion Dublin in the background makes it look like he has 3 legs anyway that does it ?:|

I get insane amounts of bruises and cuts, pretty much weekly, but that is from the ball.

Actually that guy I gave a red card to a few weeks back threatened to do me in when we play them on January 2nd, so if you're a betting man... ;) (this reminds me, I need to find out how long his ban is to work out whether I need to make an issue about it or not)

I remember seeing the David Busst picture in the paper. It looked worse then because the circle in that picture makes it less obvious what you are looking at.

@Albino I am happy to share your brain as long as our brain is now telling you to go and make a cup of tea for us :)

Anyway, to cheer you up, I present to you the most staggeringly stupid article I've read in a while. Unsurprisingly, it comes from the Daily Mail.

I may claim it on expenses.

Blimey Dix!

The comments, at least, are reassuring. As for the article, this is my fave bit:

Quote:
But the Nazis did not invent these things. The only difference between Hitler and previous governments was that he believed, with babyish credulity, in science as the only truth. He allowed scientists freedoms which a civilised government would have checked.

Unless you were a Jewish scientist, natch. Or believed in researching anything other than projects that had direct military applications. And agreed to join the Nazi party. And didn't mind slave labour at your facilities.

Yeah, sorry I can't come to M&M tonight. Wednesday night looks like a write-in and Shot in the Dark for Nanowrimo, if I'm well enough by then. Are you and Mel interested in going to see the Barry fireworks on Thursday, by the way? I reckon Friday will be best for a rescheduled M&M, if that's okay?

I am not suggesting that any British scientists are currently conducting experiments comparable to those which were allowed in Nazi Germany or in Soviet Russia

Except wait - I am suggesting that! But doing it while saying I'm not. Ain't I a cheeky one?!

Going back to the injuries thing, I once had to snap my head round quick when someone was walking in while I was having a wank. Still can't headbang properly to this day. As I am bald.

I like to think that the force from snapping your head round caused all your hair to shoot out of its follicles like a porcupine.

That's a myth anyway, porcupines can't wank.

They certainly recoiled. I assumed it was the sight of my gross physique in the vinegar strokes, but the hair defence flying into their eyes is more plausible.

Fair dos, matey. Fireworks might well be a no-no as we'll probably have to hound sit, although the banging hasn't bothered her yet. Hope the writing's going smoothly.
