Who told you that? Just click on the paperclip to attach things. You only need gears to drag and drop.

Happy to oblige :hat:

Just install the "Gears" thing (gears.google.com) and then you can drag pictures from your iPhoto or the desktop or, I guess, anywhere. And I'm sure it makes many other incredible things possible too, but that would involve reading the instructions.

If you have Snow Leopard, you can download gears here instead: http://mailplaneapp.com/download/google_gears/

I like the drag and drop function, so do not mind installing gears, but I thought it was a bit broken if you had to install it to attach things - if you can attach them in the normal manner then that's a different matter.

You won't have to forever. The drag and drop stuff will be supported natively in new web browsers, eventually, because it uses HTML5 stuff. But for now browsers don't support that, so Google suggest using Gears as a workaround.

I just tried adding Grim... but Wave reckons he doesn't have an account. Weird. Unless I've missed something I don't know the rest of yours addresses.

I am nik[at]angrycake[dot]com, or possibly bik[dot]norton[at]googlewave[dot]com. Please add me.

I was invited, so have no invites.

Wave says I don't have a wave account either, when I try to add myself.

It's manual, not automatic. They are throttling the signup rate to try and avoid crashing it.

All Wave identities are @googlewave.com and although they are linked to the Google account you used to sign up from, they have different names and aren't interchangeable. You can't add my @gmail.com account name in your Wave interface, it won't work. But you can add penllawen@ -- that's my Wave ID. This is probably because in the fullness of time a lot of the Wave backend server stuff will be open sourced and you will be able to run Wave servers on your own kit, so requiring a Google account would be nonsensical.

Grim...'s using his real name because he entered something dumb during the signup phase when it asked him what username he wanted. Grim..., why don't you send yourself an invite to another email address and this time use an alias?

It's T-Mobile's fault.

Aye, I read that, and it makes every bit of sense. I'm still impatient, though.

I guess the invites are on a pretty much exponential curve at the moment, so there's no wonder they're taking so long if the system is inundated with new users and new invitations.

I can't stay signed into Wave and any of the other Google services (Mail, Reader etc.) at the same time. Why?

I can access everything fine until I start up Wave, which asks me for my Google login information. I put in my standard one, obviously shared by all else Google, and it kicks me from the other services. Should I be using some other login information there, instead?

Weird - I'm logged into my domain services (including Mail) and Wave at the same time. Actually, I don't even think I had to log in to anything this morning, maybe Google have finally fixed Chrome's cookie handling.

Indeed. It's weird.

That's what appears in Mail/Reader when I log in if I have Wave open, then it kicks me back to the login screen.

Maybe I'm being dumb and have missed something really obvious here.

Sorted it. Just cleared out all cookies, cache and private data from Chrome. I hate resorting to that.

If someone here ever gets a spare invite, then they would be ace if they could invite me (via [email protected])

It sounds confusing but good.

As did mine, so thanks again Mimi :)

consolemad@ had already gone (I wonder if the usernames have to be unique across all Google services as I've got a Gmail account with that name) so I've had to go for consolemad.co.uk@ instead.

I didn't get a chance to pick a name; when I clicked on the link it just asked me to log into Wave with my Gmail credentials and it assigned me the same address as Gmail. I don't really want to publish it as its my name. Can I change it?

Press space to replay through the wave chronologically (rather than simply top-to-bottom). It's a bit weird, confusing and sometimes non-worky.

It rarely works in my version of Chrome, that, unfortunately. I don't know if it's a problem with Wave or Chrome's Dev Channel, but both are experimental.

After faffing around for 20 minutes and still getting bugger all happening in a completely non-intuitive environment, I declare Wave a pointless waste of time.

Start up a one-on-one conversation with someone, and perhaps watch some videos of how it works. It's quite cool, and I can easily see the benefits for work communication, but it's baffling being invites into a 250-message long conversation with several participants.

Bottom left side there's a contact list. It should already contain the person who invited you. Click on them and select 'New Wave' (ho ho), and the wave window will appear on the right. Type some stuff in there for them. If you want to reply to a message, hover over its lower border and click. It's all very confusing, aye.

I think that might depend on if you choose to use a different email address to the one that the invite was sent to.

Most folks that I invited show on mine, but Dimrill doesn't. Was it me that invited you, DM? I can't remember, but if it was you do not show, either.

Yes, it was your good self. :) I've checked back through this thread though and I signed up with the same email that you sent the invite to so I'm guessing it's a Google gremlin.

Got my invite, thanks Mimio.

Plan to spend the afternoon tinkering has been foiled by the fact that this PC (work) has IE on it and I can't install the relevant gubbins to make Wave work without Administrator rights which I'll never get. It'll have to wait until the weekend before I can break it and ruin the fun for everyone with my ham fistedness
