My mates after a new laptop and is pretty poor at the moment, was hoping someone would know some amazing site or ebay seller. He'd prefer decent specs before resorting to going for a netbook.

Laptops Direct are pretty canonical. Put in a price, and see what you get out. Alternatively, the Dell Outlet is also worth checking for returned/refurbished machines - there can be some proper bargains there, but it's obviously dependent on what they've got in at the time.

As always, is s/he sure they need a laptop? Plenty more PC for the money with a desktop.

Not really any room for a desktop at his place, and he tends to take it to uni a fair bit. I've spotted a a fairly decent refurb one on that dell outlet place for around £270.

Thats for a Inspiron 1545 Pentium Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz,800MHz,1MB), 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive.

are ones I was looking at.

But at £270 you might as well buy a new one from Tescos
