Probably fell to his death ages ago. Does this come under the Darwin Awards or is it more "childish fantasies don't work, ahhhhh kids"?

Got the live footage working, and you can see the indentation where he is.

This is so crazy that I can't really comprehend that his life is very much at stake.

Fucking hell, poor kid.

Of course, if he makes it, he's got one hell of a story to dine out on.

It's being covered on BBC News Channel now.

But the newsreader keeps giggling. I think a comment on Reddit sums it up best: Never has something so possibly tragic been so hilarious.

But your a newsreader stop grinning like a loon!

I hope they ban this sick filth like Pixar's "UP", aimed at getting small children to ape their heroes and fly off into the sky.

Won't somebody think of the children?

What they need to do is get marksmen to shoot a hole in it to slowly deflate it. Either that or an olde timey gold digger to let off his blunderbuss in the air while hopping from foot to foot.

The balloon has landed!

Literally whilst a priest on BBC news was using A CHILD NEAR DEATH IN A BALLOON as a metaphor for the current state of christianity in the UK.

BBC say the boy was not in the balloon. I hope that doesn't mean he fell out ages ago! :(

Article dated march about the parents of the kids:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/husted/2009/03/06/ft-collins-couple-play-wife-swap-again/

Summary:
The kids parents were on wife swap.

Quote:
Even if I had a wife, I wouldn’t go on ABC’s “Wife Swap.” Exchanging spouses for two weeks isn’t my idea of fun. I don’t even want to go on “Dog Swap.”

But Richard and Mayumi Heene of Ft. Collins did it in October – and we’ll see them do it again Friday night (7 p.m. on KMGH-Ch. 7).

The first time, they were matched with a couple from Connecticut who ran a business making homes safe for children. This didn’t fit so well with Richard, who is a storm chaser and scientist, currently building a flying saucer in his garage.

“The first time out, they made me look like a mad man,” he says. “This time around, they look like the wackos.”

In the second episode the wives are swapped with a family in Florida. He’s a landscaper and, says Richard, “needs a weedwacker to cut his hair.” She a psychic.

“My wife hands out flyers about my construction business, and that funds my scientific experiments,” Richard says. “(The psychic) wouldn’t do any of the chores. She’s a freight train if she in command. If she’s not in command she just sits on her butt and does nothing.”

I have no words.

Child was found at home hiding in box in the attic.

Apparently the balloon was aloft for two hours, the boy was hiding for more than that amount of time. In a box in the attic? That 6 year old must have had more patience than most... I've never known a 6 year old that wouldn't have gotten bored of sitting in a box after a few minutes...

I could imagine my 6 year old doing it. He loves to win at hide and seek. Also, perhaps he fell asleep. Apparently it's quite normal for children of that age to need an afternoon nap. Although none of my kids have had one past the age of 3!

There's very much the suggestion that the couple are horrible TV appearance whores and that maybe - just maybe, perish the thought! - that they knew where the child was the whole time. Possibly... ...whisper it... ...they even staged it all.

Was it a Quantum Leap episode where Sam knew the child was staying at a friend's house, rather than being down the well?

We finally have our own version of the pathetic 'kid down the well' stories the americans embarass themselves over whenever someone at Fox wants to cover up a real news story. O deep and profound joy.

I couldn't bear to watch that. Does it turn out that the parents set it up as an attention seeking publicity stunt, and the kid rats them out?

Just a wild guess there.

Maybe being cynical, but as soon as the boy was found 'hiding' for all of those hours I thought it was a hoax. Actually, I think Craig said they'd find him at home as soon as the story broke.

Anyway, apparently the parents 'face charges', though what those charges might be isn't apparent, yet.

If it does turn out to be a hoax 'for the show' then I hope they get sued up the wall for wasting police time and public money.

Yeah, I am pretty pleased with having called that after seeing a second of the balloon footage on TV in the canteen and a workmate saying there was a kid in it.
"Bollocks is there, it's bound to be a publicity stunt"

I bet the TV stations all suspected that too and made such a big deal out of it so that it would be an even bigger deal when it turned out to be LIES.

It's all a bit Twelve Monkeys to me.

Long time since I've watched that - how do you mean?

There's a bit in the film where Cole (Bruce Willis) listens to the radio and a news broadcast in which a kid has gone missing down a mine or something and a major rescue operation has been launched.

He knows of the story since he's from the future and insists to the psychiatrist (Madeleine Stowe) that the boy is just playing a hoax and he's found in the barn a few days later, and she rejects it as a delusion.

Eventually it's revealed that the kid was hiding in the barn all the time, and the psych. then realises that Cole was telling the truth about being from the future, and it's a pivotal moment in the film.
