The names of my home network can mostly be seen below, and are taken from the "Bloody Roar" fighting games.
At work, we name them after disasters, so we can say "Hindenburg has crashed" or "Titanic has gone down again". We also have "Dory", the server that keeps forgetting things.

Not having a network at home (yet) not had to think about it.

When I worked on teh Jobcentre project, we put in jobpoints, they were all named, depending on how many we put in.

7 could be the dwarfs... etc

For some reason, all the computers at work were named after cats, so you have Garfield etc.

The servers we have are named after planets.

And my computer at home is named SAMSON, for some reason.

I used Welsh mythology and history for a while (I had dewi, arawn, glyndwr, branwen). Now I've moved over to Simpsons characters (I have homer, moe, lovejoy, probably more I've forgotten on some dead OS install).

A simple descriptor for me. So XPDesk or 7Lap or VistaMCE.

At work it's 3 digit city descriptor, 3 digit business descriptor, 2 digit role descriptor, and then a 3 digit number.

Oh yeah. Most of our workstations in work are Star Wars planets. Servers are prefixed with svr-, vmw-, or hl2-, then a code for the OS family (e.g. w2k or rhl), then a code for the OS flavour (e.g. e for enteprise), then the last three digits of the IP in hex.

I have two servers, Jupiter and Saturn; Jupiter is the domain controller and so all the workstations are named after Jupiter's moons, currently:

Io
Ganymede
Europa
Callisto
Elara

Optimus (main server, used be called 'Evil', but that was tempting fate)
PeeCee (laptop)
Shiny (netbook)
mediacenter (yawn)
Megatron (old, dying XP machine)

In college, the main servers were called 'Enterprise', 'Voyager' and 'DS9'. Now that's geeky

Assuming Saturn is in the domain, it should also be a moon.

Cardiff Uni's CS department names its staff workstations after elements, where the last digit of the IP is the proton number. So my machine was on x.x.x.65 and it was terbium.cs.cf.ac.uk. In a pinch, you could use a Periodic Table as a DNS lookup.

Orion for my main comp. Don't usually have a network.

A friend has StrongBad, StrongMad, and StrongSad. All connecting to Trogdor.

Non-coincedentally, that was about when I last did anything practical involving configuring Windows domain servers. They are peers now, right?

The one I'm on at work is rather sexily named after me. It's slightly better than a bench, at least.

At home, my last few computers (well, the same one mostly, with different hard drives as I formatted/replaced) were Imlac, Rasselas, and Nekayah. I'm hoping I won't have to name a new one for a long time, because the only named character left is Pekuah, and she only existed to get kidnapped and then mourned (spoilers, omg).

The workstations in my office are all named after night-clubs. Three guesses who's influence that is ;)

Hehe yeah. So you'd need some sort of binary planet arrangement.

I'm boring:

PC-01 (PC = windows, not technically correct I know but never mind)
MB-01 (MB = mobile, for laptops)
MB-02
MC-01 (MC = mac)
SV-01 (SV = server)

It lives in it's own little world, on it's own public (static) IP address separate from all my "important" stuff - I use it for testing various bits and bobs.

'Aurora' - iBook G4
'Aleste' - Inspiron 8200
'Lissie' - ancient Advent PII-400
'Allie' - equally ancient Celeron 433
'macuser' - currently out-of-action G4 Quicksilver (never got around to renaming it)

I used to name the two old PCs after where they were (as the PII was mine and the Celeron my parents'). Lissie is named for Lisvane Street (where my house was) while Allie is named for St Albans (where my parents live). They were Cassie (for Cardiff) and Rosie (for Rosslyn Park, where my parents lived before) originally. This was mostly to help when I came home and networked them up.

Everything else on my network (laser printer, 360, Xbox) doesn't have a name.

Oh, great, all that time in therapy trying to get rid of the memories and you have to go and bloody mention it. Fucksakes. I spent an unpleasant amount of time debugging the PC port of Virtua Tennis on a Japanese install of Windows ME. I don't want to ever have to go there again :(
