Well it's my first Christmas as a daddy, so I'll be trying to 'borrow' my daughter from her mother as much as I can. The sneaky cow originally suggested I could have her for a couple of hours on Christmas Eve while she gets to hog her all Christmas day, though I have pointed out I consider this to be unacceptable. As long as I get to see her for an hour or two on Chrimbo day though, I'll be happy.

In terms of pressie, I have suggested to my family that I'd quite like some cash monies to go towards a new 5.1 speaker set to go with my new surround amp. My car's upcoming first MOT, plus the fact I know the brakes are knacked and it needs new tires will probably prevent me from being able to get the speakers myself.

This Christmas I would like to head East for multiple plates of soup followed by turkey, ham & assorted veg. Then on boxing day I'd like to return to the West for more soup, steak pie & assorted veg.

So aye, pretty much the same as every other year then :DD

Other than that there's not much I need/want at this precise moment.

Ever tried being married to an Italian? My father in law used to search through all our belongings when we lived there. Right up until I left my wife's dildo hidden in the dresser drawer and not the safe. He seemed to think it was his right and personal duty to go rooting through our stuff (including my wallet) on a weekly basis.

His reasoning? "It's my house so I will go where I please, when I please"

The wanker.

The thing is, I don't actually mind my in-laws too much; they're nice enough people, but I'm naturally an introvert - I find being around large groups of people exhausting, and it's made worse if I have nothing in common with any of them, so the annual boxing day get-together is pretty much my idea of hell - and Mrs Parm knows it, too. It is, in fact, the one thing that might persuade me that having kids is a good idea, because then we'd have a damn good reason not to fly to Ireland for a few years.

I wouldn't say you're an introvert, more just a dude. And us dudes seem to like a lot less fuss, crowd and noise as the women do.

I am making the case that we don't need to actually go for Christmas/Boxing Day this year, as we've still not done Christmas at my parents house (which is a lot more relaxed, features considerably more booze, and considerably fewer relatives, on account of them all being dead). And we'll definitely be back for New Year, as my brother is over from Japan for a few days.

Good luck with that :)

I'm not bothered about presents. I get two weeks off work so the highlight of my Christmas will be whenever Jen gets a few days off and we can head through to Fife to stay at her parents house, where we will get drunk, eat lots of tasty food and go out walks. On Christmas day she might be working so I will probably be at my mums house taking deep breaths and trying to refrain from taking the carving knife to either my wrists or my mothers neck.

My magic list of anything would be:
The paying off of debt
Mac Book Pro
iPhone (PAYG)
iPod Touch
DS Lite
New Super Mario Bros Wii
CoD 6
Brütal Legend
A really cool 50s fedora hat (or something like that)
A cool fossil
A meteorite
a decent microphone for podcasting
A telescope
Series 9 of Seinfeld

In reality I'll probably get
Some gift my mum thought was funny (last year a belt holster for bottles of beer)
Some ale
A vidya game.
Which is a good lot if I say so myself. Not too many socks and the like.

It will be awesome to hang with the olds and drink booze and watch tv and see my home town friends

Actual time off, so I can go and visit my parents for a week. I'll even settle for the week before Christmas if I have to.

We had Christmas to ourselves last year, and that worked out just well - we even managed to cook an entire Christmas dinner without poisoning ourselves! Then we got mercilessly drunk.

I love Christmas/Winter, and it's the very best time of year. Summer can f-off, 'cos I'm all about dark nights and rain and bitterly cold winds, though I fully appreciate I'm likely in the minority here, but happy to be so. :)

Well as I will be getting married on 11th December, Christmas this year will be spent on a beach in The Maldives honeymooning.

Present wise I don't want anything and although I've spent the last few years saying this (and have still had plenty of stuff), Christmas for me is about eating, drinking and seeing family and friends. Not having to worry about work whilst I'm eating cold turkey and drinking wine is enough for me.

For the last five or so years I've always spent Christmas at Ali's folks house seeing her nieces and nephews (4 of them who are all under 10) and that has been awesome playing with their toys and watching them open presents.

I love Christmas! (but not so much in October/November!)

Oh good-o, and I'm not so alone in my views on this, then. :)

I'm getting stupidly excited about the clocks changing, at the end of the month!

I am also 100% more likely to exercise during the winter, and love nothing more than going for a walk after work, wrapped up warm and snug.

Aye, I'd imagine Christmas Eve will be the usual affair as well unless Jen is working.

I have experience in this field. The fair solution is for one parent to have the fruit of your combined loins from Chrismas Eve, overnight, and for the morning. The other parent gets them from either just before or just after lunch, and then for the rest of the day. Swap over next year. And remember the Zioette is probably a bit young this Christmas -- next year will be much more fun for you and her.

:this: x2.

I fucking hate summer. Allergies, hay fever, sweating, can't sleep. Give me cold, the colder the better.

Cold not only means I can sleep but it also means that people stay in their houses, meaning more peace and quiet and more space when you go out. It doesn't help that I live close to three or four major holiday places in the UK and thus traffic quadruples in the summer, you have the boy racers out with their loud exhausts and all the townies are coming in for a holiday and a booze up.

Winter? I love stepping outside and seeing my breath turn into fog, smelling the open fires and that lovely burning wood smell.

I loved winter in the USA aswell. -20c was common and you always got snow. So cold that if you spit you have to make sure it clears your lips and face, because in a matter of moments it turns to ice. Orsum.

Tis an old one. In summer it's not worth going over there because all the bloody holiday fuckers are there and you can't move >:(

It's big from the outside but tiny inside. In the winter though? man, it's awesome. They light up the open fires and it's truly a wonderful atmosphere. And as you can see, it's so close that you can drink copious ammounts and then crawl back on your hands and knees :D

That is the single worst thing I've ever imagined.

Imagine the turkey itself peeking gradually out of a straining Helmut Kohl, squatting on a glass table.
