That's just genius. Sadly, the events list on the official website seems to be stuck in April.

Bah. I was hoping it would be more like Mr Burns' giant chessboard.

FIRST PIECE: Hey, Burns has been gone for a while!
SECOND PIECE: Let's run for it!
KING: Come back you fools, protect me!
(several black pieces run in and start beating the crap out of the KING)

Why are you wasting your time with chess when you could be at the Tate Modern?

I assume the moves in chess must be timed otherwise the better boxers would just stall during the chess bits.

I misread the thread title as 'chestboxing' and was reminded of some video of a woman smacking a bloke around the face with her oversized breasts. Which ties in neatly with MA's link.

A contest consists of 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer.

A round of boxing takes 3 minutes. Between the rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The contest is decided by: checkmate (chess round), exceeding the time limit (chess round), retirement of an opponent (chess or boxing round), KO (boxing round), or referee decision (boxing round). If the chess game ends in a stalement, the opponent with the higher score in boxing wins. If there is an equal score, the opponent with the black pieces wins.

Chess boxing looks fun to watch & play.

When I went it was almost entirely shit. So I amused myself by joining a guided tour & listening to the wifey make things up, then I stood rubbing my chin & nodding sagely at a black fire-door.

Skydiving isn't a sport though, is it?
So it's just one step up from log-flume chess:

It might not have been skydiving. Maybe just diving. That thing wot Tom Daley does.
