I mean this with much respect to the lady, but this totally sounds like something Mimi would be knowledgeable on.

If it's curtaining fabric then anything other than a suit will most likely be too stiff. Most 'made to measure' suits that you can get made at a cheap price have you visit someone (often in a hotel function) and see you get measured up before the measurements get sent abroad for cheap labour to make the suit for you, so you can't use those services as the fabric is assumedly where you are. To get a suit tailored for you is quite likely going to be pricey, but have a look in your yellow pages for a local seamstress/tailor rather than a named shop. Perhaps ask in your local service-wash launderette or dry-cleaners as they will very often know the name and number of someone who might be able to help.

Ooh, also, if you have a look at http://www.etsy.com and look at 'custom' (http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/) you can make a request for someone to make a particular item for you, set a maximum price and people will 'bid' for the job. You can look at their past work as well to see if you think they are suitable, and specify if you want someone in the UK for the job, etc. Might be worth a try.

It takes some serious needlepower to get through curtains. I don't think most crappy modern machines are up to it. I wonder if there are special machines for curtainsing.

Not really. There are certainly heavy duty machines, but most modern machines can do the job. I shortened some really heavy-duty twill curtains on a not-very-expensive, pretty much run-of-the mill machine. With curtaining the heaviest part is in the curtain tape/curtain/lining combo at the top of the curtain, but that won't be a problem with clothing as any lining will be lightweight and there will definitely be no curtain tape. The machinist will probably need a heavy-duty needle, but most people who have a machine will have a few of these spare. If not, they are about £1.

The curtains in question are required to be a suit but they're actually really quite thin. They're not too different from the image posted earlier.

And thanks Mimi. The idea is for these curtains to largely be a bit of fun for a stage performance. If I get them made into a suit it will be all manner of awesome.

Also, I've had these curtains for about 25 years..

I have some curtains that my Nan made in 1953. I cannot lift a single one of them off of the floor.

The curtains in the maser bedroom at MaliTowers are "dry clean only". MrsA has taken me around some haberdashers in search of material for new ones, but won't let me stick the current ones into the washing machine.

Funny coves, wimmin.

I'm just pleased that it wasn't only me that thought that. Saddened, slightly that you did as well, though.

I'll type this slowly as you're not reading very quickly:

I was pleased that upon reading "does anyone know anything about making clothes out of curtains" that it wasn't only me that thought of the Sound of Music, Maria having made clothes out of curtains in it. Then, the realisation that you thought the same thing saddened me slightly as I thought I had the edge on "not very masculine films" as you're a hardened gym going muscley man. See?

Ah, all suddenly becomes clear. However, it is not me that watches musicals, but my 2 1/2 year old son. Not me. Him. I do not know the songs to Seven Brides For Seven Brothers off by heart or anything.

Often I write replies to things that people haven't posted yet, and have whole conversations with you that only I know about. So, yeah.

I'm worryingly gratified that I am, in fact, one of the voices in your head. I presume I sound like James Earl Jones knocking around in there? Echo effect included.

No, you're just fairly easy to predict, so I can skip most of the conversation with you and then get on with whatever it is I was doing anyway.

Looks like this didn't turn out so well. Material sent to person, some money sent and that's about the end of it. Seemingly. The money is nothing but the loss of the fabric is a disaster of pretty monumental proportions.

Yes they are completely silent now. I can send them a letter but that's not likely to do much good.

I accepted an offer from some girl calling herself Violent Lanice (actually Tyesha Taylor) in America. Which in retrospect was probably a little foolish.
