We need a Fifa 10 thread and here it is.

I've barely played Fifa 09 as it is, so I can't really justify getting it this year. Fifa 11 will be my next one, probably.

Have they sorted out the degree-level menu structure?

Fifa 09 was excellent, so I'm very excited by this.

Sorry, but FIFA 09 had exactly the same bugs as 08, 07 and PES3 (These being the only football games I have owned). Why they don't realise that, while new stuff like the goal celebrations, is vital to the game, I would much rather have a game where the AI doesn't deliberatly slow my player down on a through ball. Make the GK leave the ball to roll into a net, take control of my player from me for 20 (jn game) yards and make him belt it out for a corner when under no pressure. And a whole host of other things which have been in the game for over 5 years!

I suppose it's more if you include the World Cup spin-off games and that.

I wouldnt say the through ball thing and the kicking the ball out faults are in fifa 09. I'd say the players are too fast in the firt place, if they slow down it will be when they get the ball or because there stamina is fucked. I havent seen the latter fault either.

Mind you the GK faults are annoying especially when theres a proper slow lob and the keeper flaps about in the middle of nowhere. Although I was watching a video yesterday and it reckons its improved that area.

Might it be that you're a bit rubbish at footie games, Bobs? I didn't really experience the same problems you have. I just couldn't really score from crosses or set pieces.

As the new Fifa and PES games are out within a short space of time of each other, I'll wait till someone else on here takes the plunge and pick one of them up. I'd imagine it'll be Fifa 10 though.

I managed to get Fifa 09 for £19.99 within a month of release, so I might change my mind if I can do the same this year.

Well, 09 was the first version I'd played since about 2001, as I've always been a PES person, but I gave up on that around 2006 as it had become rubbish in my opinion.

I've never really been a fan of fifa.

However in the fifa 09 vs pes09 both games have flaws. Fifa plays I dunno... not as nice, I find it harder to get the ball down and play it around the park, and crossing seems to be pretty useless. I have however only played against mates while drinking, so probably not the best judge.

Football games will always have bugs, I doubt I'll get any new ones as they're all essentially the same. I don't even know what point Im trying to make.

Yeah, I had loads of issues with scoring from crosses. Sort of got the hang of it after several months, but for me it just felt largely random.

My only real problems with FIFA 09 were that it was too easy to get behind the opposition defence with a nippy striker, and the infuriating bug in Be A Pro where players would inexplicably disappear from the match-day squad at regular intervals. I could live with the former if they sort out the latter.

If your missing the match day squad then your probably playing in the reserves.

Anyway the demo is very good. Like Fifa 09 but better. The 360 degree thing is that amazing mind, it seemed like a slightly looser version of last year, but the game as a whole seems alot more smoother and free flowing.

I played on experienced with Barca against Chicago Fire. the gulf between teams seemed pretty ridiculous, I seemed a lot faster and brushed people off the ball really easily. The latter seems to play a bigger part than last years and is pretty satifying to pull off. Anyway I have to say I'm worried that there may be a greater gulf between good and shit sides this season making it harder to play against real people in this way. Saying that I only won 2-1, but that was pretty much the only chance they had.

Remember the fun games we all had online with fifa 09? Yeah.... but not enough to make me want to buy fifa10. Certainly not at or near full retail price.

Switch the passing assists to semi-auto or manual, get the hang of it & half that stuff disappears. Also it might just be me, but you seem to get a better & much more sensible game if you switch the difficulty to the one of the 2 hardest settings. Some of the AI niggles seem to disappear.

No, individual players who'd been available up to that point would still appear in the team management screen but vanish from the lineup who'd been picked to play. It was fucking infuriating. By the end of my one season at Milan Ronaldinho, Kaka, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Pirlo and many, many more had all gone walkabout. MaliA excellently called it the Manchester City bug.

According to Wikipedia there are 17 going all the way back to the Megadrive version in '93, which, for you quiz fans, was the only one in the series not to include a date in the title.

Of those 17 I've played precisely none of them.

We should organise another FIFA night, as the 10-a-side games were awesome... even if we did almost always lose.

Even having a 4v4 or similar against each other would be awesome. Unless you get put on the same team as Riles.

I feel that football games have gone to far for me to know pick up and play them. Since I haven't played a FIFA since the Megadrive days, I feel like I wouldn't have a chance if I picked one up now.

I think I read hte new fifa is going to have a proper training mode with tutorials and that.

Aye, they were good fun even if they did use the same lobby system as Call of Duty meaning we had to back out to pick up someone who never made it.That's how I felt, but I was missing out whenever I went round to my pals & they were drinking & playing FIFA so I picked up a copy of PES 6 for £3 (easy achivements too for you dirty whores) & got myself back into it. It wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be.

It could be, to a certain extent, but if I have Defoe running against Sol Campbell from a standing start, Defoe should win, most of the time this doesn't happen. I would say the most infuriating bit though is the decision making, the ball comes to me out side the area, I go for a volley and do a lame header. In fact in this game almost all the headers are lame. Crossing is really poor. The long pass button doesn't work very well.

On the other hand, I really enjoy the be a pro thingy, I think it is a very good idea and could be rally good, if only the actual engine it was built upon wasn't so flawed. Although, I would also say having the "pass to me" button and the first time pass button the same isn't that good.

You definitely need to change the settings to make it less automatic.

yeah, you could do it last year but it was iffy at best, least it was free though im not paying 400ms points for a league my teams not even in anymore.

Yeah, that's what I thought (well, assumed). I also don't like the charging for it now, which is rather cheeky of them.

I haven't played 09 for a few months so I can't properly compare, but it's certainly a great game of footy. Feels even more like Pro Evo used to and then some. I'll be getting it.

Hmm, not played 09 for a bit, but nothing jumps out gameplay-wise as being significantly different.
It crashed during my first game.
Of the 3 goals I've conceded (yes, I know), 2 have been because my keeper couldn't be arsed to move, or looked like he was diving in slow motion.
Wembley stadium reopened 2 and a half years ago, so why am I listening to Martin Tyler tell Andy Gray how long they've been waiting to get in the new Wembley?

For the people who struggle with scoring from crosses - it's because of the daft auto assist thing which is on by default. Mess about with it in the options and you can make it easier if you're more used to PES style banging headers in left right and centre.

Got the demo last night and absolutely loving it. The new 360° controls didn't feel that much different to me, apart from a few times when I thought I was passing in one direction and apparently I wasn't. If that makes sense. Anyway, I put this down to the new controls but can't really know for sure until I get the full game.

Regardless, it still all felt like a top game to me, and certainly felt tighter in a few areas, i.e. personally I always found the general defending/tackling quite hard, but I was having more success here, also I found dribbling to be better and more realistic with say Messi on the ball, doing what you would expect In Real Life.

Last year I spent several hours with both the Fifa and Pro Evo demos, then decided Fifa was the better game and went for that. I won't even bother with the Pro demo this year as I'm very happy with this Fifa demo, so this is a definite purchase for me now, on the day.

I just played the demo of this. It is far more fluid than 09. Seems a bit quick though, ie players' speeds. Other thanthat though, very good.

Yeah re the speed, I also found this I think, though I did turn it down to the slowest setting in the options. I didn't feel it would be a negative thing as such, but still, I do wonder how fast the "fast" would be.

I played a bunch of games on the demo, then a bunch of games on Fifa 09 and then back to the demo.

It isn't particularly smoother or anything. So far the only difference that was anything other than completely marginal at best is that it is easier to steal the ball by stepping in without pressing any buttons.

Everything else was more or less the same, in most cases exactly the same.

Nah. Thats part of the 'Don't come home too soon' DLC.

Just thought actually, as its world cup year, there will surely also be a FIFA around May next year. So the price of this could fall quickly.

- it seems the rendering on an sd tv is better, with some nice focus effect
- i seem to be able to pull nice things of in 16m i couldn't do before
- crossings work better
- the dutch translation doesn;t fit the boxes the words are put in too, which is really irritating

Commentary in FIFA will always suck. I just wish EA had evolved FIFA down through the years rather than try to revolutionise every release since 1999. FIFA 09 was the best since 99 and I'm hoping that the subtle changes since then actually improve gameplay. Don't want to wade through another 9 years of infuriating guff until they get it right again.
