So we all bitch and moan about rubbish song selections on these rhythm games, so what would you choose if you were at the helm and had no IP problems to worry about? Ignore Guitar Hero as it's fucking shit.

Mine startings:

Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley (surprised The King hasn't been in anything like this yet, tbh)
Ghost Town - The Specials
Bat Out of Hell - Meatloaf (Shut up. SHUT UP OKAY)
Ziggy Stardust - Bowie
Video Killed The Radiostar - The Buggles OR! The Presidents of the United States of America's version
Come on Eileen - Dexys
Dosed - RHCP

I'm mainly thinking about stuff I like to sing here, to be honest.

Well, I would have picked some of flight of the conchords, but they are doing it as DLC via RBN.

I'd like Zombie Jimi Hendrix to be in the game, but only so could make him sing to paramore.

I'd imagine rock band 3 will have something major included to make it a proper sequel. They seem happy to release DLC and Track Packs until then, I'd imagine it will be a keyboard like, possibly like a keytar.

I'd like deerhoof-runners four released as an album.
The mending of the gown by sunset rubdown.
REO Speedwagon-Keep on loving you.
I also want a rocking band version of free bird for shits and giggles.

First 10 I think of:

Rainbow - 'Stargazer'
Megadeth - 'In My Darkest Hour'
Faith No More - 'Midlife Crisis'
My Chemical Romance - 'Famous Last Words'
Paramore - 'That's What You Get'
New Pornographers - 'Three or Four'
Wildhearts - 'TV Tan'
Black Sabbath - 'Sweet Leaf'
Biohazard - 'Punishment'
Guns N' Roses - 'Nightrain'

I'm not. I can imagine the master recordings would prove extremely hard to find.

And you said Guitar Hero was shit.

Yeah, most of that would be really boring to play on the rest of the instruments. Perhaps this should be the thread for Lips 2? :P

I want to see more Tool stuff. A track pack with the following would be great:
Undertow
Stinkfist
The Grudge
Lateralus
Intolerance
Forty Six & 2
H.

Some Meshuggah, Botch and Candiria would be nice from a drumming and guitar point of view. I'm starting to get the hang of polyrhythms. :) Old Green Day would be really fun, as The Offspring tracks proved. King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the list could go on forever.

While I was playing GH:WT at my friend's, I kept annoying him by asking 'is there any Converge/Coalesce/Kiss It Goodbye/Botch/Drowningman/Human Remains?' etc.

Meshuggah would be the worst thing in the world to do vocals on. Such a boring throatman.

I dunno, I see it more as another rhythmic instrument - it does fit the music well.

I'd go for (a selection that patently wouldn't sell):

What a Fool Believes - The Doobie Brothers (or the Self version played entirely on toy instruments)
One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces - Ben Folds Five (with added piano controller)
Balled of a Comeback Kid - The New Pornographers
Suzie Q Sailaway - Self
Bigger Than The Both of Us - Fluid Ounces (utilising the Ben Folds piano controller)
Truck On - Simple Kid
My Only Offer - Mates of State
Building - On

MacArthur Park sung by Richard Harris
Simon and Garfunkel (can't choose, probably all of)
Bowie (as above)
Roy Orbison (again as above)
Don McLean (all the Orbison tracks he covered, also Vincent and American Pie, naturellement)

Some Fear Factory and more George Thorogood (if only to prove there's more to him than 'Bad to the Bone') would be nice too. Oh, and Rage's 'Back in Time' would work pretty well too.

I'll see you that and raise you: the whole of Troublegum as entire-album DLC. There's not a slack second on that album.

Starting to like you. Needs more Kerbdog though.

[edit] 'C Thomas Howell' and 'Pretty Lush' - very good things. earthtone9 song should be 'Tat Twam Asi' though.

Fucking 'Weeds' - didn't even see that. Albino Kid - give me my personal history back! I taped the video off Superrock, and played it back constantly. The single was delayed - and delayed - and then the album came out. What a fucker of a song that is. I need to go to Damnation again. 'This Time' and 'How It Would Be' also slay.

And Dimmers: the end of the 'Angry Tree' solo into the vocal return = godlike.

Have you voted in the mod elections yet? ;)

As a rule on that list I was trying to give as much consideration as possible to which songs would be interesting for at least 3 of the 4 parts to play, and not to just go "yeah that song is awesome!" and stick it on the list. My Earthtone9 choice might have been one of the instances where I didn't manage it though, on reflection I'd prefer "Tat Twam Asi" or "Grind And Click".

I don't know. Raise your hands if you have bought Papa Roach RB DLC.

Do you know that you have bought it though?

Btw, don't deny "Rollin" is fun to jump around to. It's on the track list to lure the nu-metallers into buying the game so they will be exposed to REAL MUSIC!!!!!11!!!111

One night, while a bit drunk, I bought a whole load of songs, and then when I went into the downloaded song list, I found Papa Roach. I don't know what I meant to buy, but I can guarantee it wasn't that.

I do deny "Rollin" is fun to jump around to. Firstly as I don't really like jumping around to music and secondly because it's shit. And thirdly as it contains Fred Durst being a twat.

The words "being a twat" constitute hyberbole in that sentence, no?

I shall now proceed to move in and then subsequently move back, elevating and lowering my hands :)

Yeah, that was one of the three songs I don't know or like. I think something off the first album might be ok, at a push.

No, it's a tautology.

Yes, that is exactly the word I had in my head, but for some reason my fingers typed a different one :S

All this talk of Fred Durst must be making me thick(er).

It worries me that when I read that, I didn't think you were refering to him making you more stupid, but rather that he turned you on and made your man-organ thicker.

Of course I just realised that I can probably never forgive "Rollin" for being used as The Undertaker's theme music instead of his classic entrance during that ghastly American Badass phase, so I'm going to wipe it from the playlist. I've edited the original post to include its replacement.

I quite like Limp Bizkit, they're stupid, but insanely catchy. I'd listen to them over.. well just about any metal that Dimrill likes. or anything the Milky Bar Kid put in his list. The Smiths, please fuck off now.

Better than replacing a 't' with a 'y'.

And you didn't look at the spot where Limp Bizkit used to be :p
