I occasionally worry that someday I'm going to have to replace my old-yet-trusty Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro.

Only problem is, it seems Microsoft have assumed that we LIKE having shitty, dinky Enter keys instead of the good old chunky kind, as all of their currently manufactured keyboards have the detestable two-key (Enter, random "Slash" one?) setup. So it looks like I'll have to place my trust on another brand entirely. I have no clue as to their qualities and/or flaws however. Suggestions?

Bear in mind I don't want a ridiculously over-the-top fancy one that curves and bends all over the fucking shop - a simple one with reasonable keys will do just nicely. While I still mainly favour wired hardware, I wouldn't take offence to a wireless one too much so long as its connection quality is superb and adaptors don't get too much in the way of everything. Thankos.

i use a nice Dell one. It has laptop type keys.

Apologies - I obviously don't frequent this place as often as you guys. I always tend to feel lost in the myriad of threads!

I recommend a PC keyboard.

The Apple Keyboard is the best, most comfortable one I've ever used. Highly recommended, even on a PC.

Bear in mind that internet pictures of Microsoft keyboards will show the US layout of the keyboard, featuring a smaller, one line enter key. UK keyboards will not have that.

I've never found a keyboard that I prefer to the Microsoft made ones, but I do go for the ridiculously over the top fancy bendy ones

The Enter key configuration on the picture is different to the one I own, as that's a US keyboard, and I own a UK one.

You should be banned for untruths like that. I own one of the fuckers and use it on a regular basis. Yeah for a Mac its handy as it is bluetooth and isn't battery hungry, but it's a fucking shambles in terms of being a keyboard. The only keyboard I can think of that I'd rather use less is the one found on the Speccy 48+ and original 128 machines!

I've got an old apple one. it does the job, as my laptop keyboard had a tea incident.

Takes a while to get used to, but it works... letters come out when I type them...

The keys can't be very secure in that case.

It has all of the keys, for typing. What more do you want?

It's the only keyboard I've used for several hours straight without getting pains in my wrists.

Edit: isn't the bluetooth one a smaller, cutdown version compared to the USB one I have?

No. The slim brushed metal one with White keys. Still gets dirty, but meh.

I've got a Dell SK-8135 and it's a really nice keyboard, with multimedia controls (which work perfectly in Winamp via a plugin), a swanky volume knob and a 2-port USB hub. It's definitely the best keyboard I've owned (the last few being a laptop-style Logitech one and an MS one before that) but unfortunately they're a bit tricky to get hold of now they're discontinued. They're £23 delivered from http://www.computer-reclaim.co.uk/brand ... -429-p.asp -- dunno if that's pricey for a keyboard these days or not though?

Cracking keyboard and mouse, but entirely unneccessary in a way! Ordered one of these discounted from ebay when building a PC for a mate and he loves it.

I would go Logitech if cash permits or Microsoft.

Never been too disappointed with Logitech. In fact, am thinking of trading up from the Dell mentioned above to the Lovely Logitech Illuminated. It's recently been wholeheartedly endorsed by, ah, some guy who used to do model lighting and pre-viz on Battlestar Galactica. Obviously a trustworthy source.

What the Eff? I never realised this before. So the Enter setup is really based on the territory? Not sure what problems Yanks have with chunky keys exactly.


That does look quite snazzy. Now someone confirm that a UK two-line-Enter-key equivalent exists and I'll really consider it. Although I'm curious as to why they changed the middle section significantly (large Delete key? Ummmmm? Where's PrintScrn gone?)....



I realised something else also - I think I love the top buttons on my MS Internet Keyboard Pro too much. The Mute and Volume buttons have more than made up for my current Sennheiser HD 215 headphones lacking a volume control. Why MS discontinued this wonderous creation years ago is one of life's greatest mysteries.
