I've been with AOL, paying 9.99 a month for donkeys. Last months bill suddenly doubled, and they won't change it back so I've asked for a MAC whatsit.

On a BT exchange, and I realise I might not get quite such a good deal again, but what's good right now?

Ta!

I had Be in my old house, was good 24meg for £18 a month.

I think we're getting virgin 50mb in new house, but that's quite expensive.

fwiw i recently swapped to 02.
I only get about 8mb due to my line, but its the 20mb package and cos i have an 02 phone i get it for just under a tenner.

The changeover was smooth and simple, and the first 2 or 3 months are free.

Hmm, the BE value package looks OK for 13.50 a month with a 12 month contract.

However, when I finally got through to the cancellation department, AOL offered me to continue at 9.99 for the next 3 months before going up to 15.99 a month, with no contract. So laziness wins out for now.

Apparently the increase is down to BT increasing the charge to the ISPs from all the exchanges they operate without competition (i.e. the non LLU ones). They reckon it's gone to up over 12 quid a month per connection charged to them, so they'd actually be losing money... Anyone heard that story anywhere else? Bit of an arse if so.

What not swap to the 8mb package then? They're supposed to have done that for you anyway, if the line can't support higher speeds. Bit silly to be paying £2.50 a month for stuff you can't use.

I've had Demon for £19.99 for a six years. It's not cheap, but it's consistent. My router is permanently on & t'internet never goes off + I've never had a problem with download limits or bollocks like that. I think it's 10 meg. This is assuming that it's an offer to new users, of course.

Problem is, my TV reception is shite. So bad that it's still shite even after we paid for someone to install a bigger arial. I was looking at cable and you have to have phone with it for 11.00 or it's 19.50 with internet. Which is a bugger because I want to keep demon but would still have to pay the BT line rental just for internet.

Demon managed to royally fuck me off, and still are doing.

Up to 8 meg got me 1.5 yet they charge me the same as everyone, they send threatening bandwidth emails without telling me how much I've used, or can use, or when I will be able to use lots again. They outsourced their DCS to India so good luck understanding the scripts they read, though the sigh one usually hears as you connect to them says it all.

I had to give a months notice to quit, phoned them mid July, told them I was leaving. A million questions followed which I refused to answer. Mid august I get a bill for aug-sept. Phoned up, they explained that I for some reason needed to be billed for aug-sept, then to call at the end of aug and get a rebate (if I've paid which I've not because I cancelled my DD before I even cancelled my service) or get them to adjust the bill. I explained I was telling him now to calculate a bill for the last month of my provision, which had now expired, and send me a bill for it. They claimed not to be able to send out bills (I've got a drawer full of them) nor to have the ability to diarise themselves to get this done at the end of the month. I reiterated that they have had their notice period and I am requesting a correct invoice for final monies owing, so they can send me it and I'll pay it or not send me it and I won't.

Demon are fine if your connection is fine, but god help you if it's not.

When I left them it was a minor pain, I cancelled my DD, told the bank, told them. They then sent me a debt collection letter. So I gave them shit, and have not heard from them since. Hate companies sending those red letters when you cancel something / change provider.
