I love TimeSplitters and it seems a great shame to me that the series is permanently on hold. Just think how great it would be on Live Arcade / PSN with all that multi-player and co-op goodness. Not to mention the awesome mapping tool.

Even a redux of the first 3 on Live Arcade would go down a treat... or dare I even suggest a browser based version like Quake Live?

Will any of this happen? Will it bollocks.

I heard it was a reasonable, generic shooter. What was so great about it?

It'is a fast paced arcadey action shooter that doesn't take itself at all seriously. Spawn in and start blasting with none of that pesky stealth business or epic story line nonsense. It has zombies, flame-throwers, sci-fi weapons, chicks in hot pants... it's got it all.

In many respects I'd say it's (the series) very far from being generic. I'm struggling to think of a game that's quite like it - it's certainly a million miles away from the likes of Halo or Call of Duty.

Do we still need to buy it on the PS2 then? I just reckon if it had really been that great we would be looking at Time Splitters 3 not Killzone 2. I am however willing to be wrong on this.

Edit: And reading the post back I am wrong. I meant Time Splitters 4.

Timesplitters was basically the goldeneye multiplayer reskinned with unevolved goldeneye style crappy single player tacked on. Great with three mates.

When Goldeneye or Perfect Dark hits Live, however, that'll be that. No need for Timesplitters, much as I'd like to see it on there.

Apparently the studio went bust and was bought up by Crytek (the folks behind FarCry and Crysis) and the project (TS 4) is "on hold". It's a massive shame because there are a huge number of "Generic Shooter in de-saturated apocalyptic future" games out there and in the pipeline, but nothing that strikes me as being much fun as TimeSplitters is.

TS1 maybe, but not 2 or Future Perfect.

I played Timesplitters 2 one night on the Gamecube and it made me very sick.

That awful Neotokyo level that was IMPOSSIBLE in coop disagrees with you.

Part of me really really likes the timesplitters games, but they felt a conflicted to me. On the one hand they wanted to basically be Goldeneye with a new lick of paint, and on the other hand they wanted to have elements of more modern design.

That said, I'd certainly like to play a new one.

Really - we always found it easy. One of you follows the stupid mark to the stupid target and the other one hangs back. Get to the target and then let all hell break loose. Easy peasy.

You should try Exhumed on the PS1. Fantastic game, so long as you had taken your travel sickness pills. Apparently an altogether better experience on the Saturn. Might have to track it down at some point.

I remember Stunt Car Racer making me feel like I was falling from a great height. The only other games that have succedded in this since (that I have played) are the spiderman games, 2 and 3, and Crackdown.

Every twitch FPS ever? It's the same game as Unreal Tournament, for example.

No Limits (rollercoaster sim) makes me feel a bit queasy. And flying upside down in BF1942 and IL-2 was a similar headfuck.

Timesplitters wouldn't stand out now like it did today - Halo and UT3 both have the wacky game modes, TF2 has the cartoony characters (indeed, you can just picture a few screaming elmos saying Timesplitters ripped TF2 off!) and, best of all, the studio went bust making painfully generic Haze.

I have TS2 for the Gamecube and am amazed how almost exactly like Goldeneye it is (but with better graphics).

Anyway, FRD deserved to go bust, because they didn't employ me. ;)

:this:

No jump, for a start.

But I liked TS2/3. Mainly for the awesome co-op. Which was considerably better in 3.

TS3 was indeed a superb game even if it did have one of the most incomprehensible stories ever seen in a game. Didn't FRD go bust on the back of that bloody awful PS3 game Haze?

Reading T3 magazine this morning, I found the following snippets, some of which might even interest people on here:
1) There is going to be a PS3 Motion Sensing Controller - no real shock there.
2) There is going to be Android OS netbooks.
3) There is going to be a Gears of War Film - Sounds bad, it is not as if there is really much story going on anyway.
4) Just when you thought a Gears film sounded bad, there is going to be a World of Warcaft film - Errrrr?
5) Timesplitters 4 - yay, love the Timesplitters games, they are fun.
6) A game called I am Alive coming out - "After a series of huge quakes rock your city, you must fight to survive as the populace turn nasty. Bottled water is like gold dust, and you'll need to be swift to avoid falling skyscrapers, too" - could be good.
