I recall reading a book when I was little that featured some golden guy who was the child of the sun or something who was looked after by a monk. The story was of their adventures together. I read two books of this series and they probably weren't that young when I read them. I seem to recall them getting surprising bloodthirsty at time and probably not that suitable for children despite me getting them from the children's library.

I haven't a clue what they were called or much of what happened in them.
