Put special case on phone / iPod / other thing that is recharged.
Dump said thing on the 'Powermat'.
It charges.

Want! Want! Don't care that it's pointless! Want!

Not quite as glamorous as MS would lead us to believe with their MS desk (or whatever it was called)

Also useful if you have some coffin-dodging relative with a huge inheritance to hand out and a pacemaker. Invite them around and show them the Powermat and soon that inheritance will be yours.

Cool. I can't wait for completely wireless charging, though, if it ever happens.

Here's one you can actually buy: http://www.wildcharge.com. $80 for a charge mat and an iPhone skin or Nokia charger tip. EDIT: interesting, that one isn't wireless induction. It's a clever arrangement of physical connectors, which means it charges much faster.

The Palm Pre also has a built-in induction charger, which is pretty neat as you don't need to add a case or dongle or different battery cover to the phone.

I like the way they've crudely photoshopped the iPod's "charging" screen on to every device in that second picture.

It's called a solar panel.

Would that work in Scotland :)

Also you would need to plug something into the panel to make it charge..

Umm. What on earth is the point of that, compared to say dropping your iPhone into its dock/base thing?

It's actually even slightly more complicated and untidy (and vastly more expensive) than just using the charger that came with your phone. Or have I missed something?

Not if you build the panel into the product, or into (say) a phone holster thing which you keep the phone in.

And it wouldn't work well if it spends all its time indoors under a desk. But in that case you've got easy access to a normal charger so why bother.

Yes.
It's still pointless for iphones or anything else which already has a perfectly good upright dock thingy though.

Besides, with a skin on your iPhone, you'd look like Craster. You don't want that, do you?

It is not pointless, itis a universal charger that you don't have to plug in to your phone.

You just rest your product on it and it charges..

Means I would not have to keep plugging and unplugging charges for both my phones :)

It is impressive. Except you'd still need to run cables to the TV for a games console. Or an aerial. Or sat cables. Etc.

Wireless HDMI. Admittedly that one is shit, but there are lots of versions of this, and not all of them are shit.

Well that just wraps everything up in a neat little package! I mean it. Sorry if it sounded sarcastic.
