What I mean basically is which game was so good that you were bummed beyond comprehension when it was over?

I have a couple. Ones that I have played through again and again wishing I could turn back the clock and play them as a 'virgin' because nothing has been as good since.

My top three are -

Mario World (SNES). The feelings this game gave to me when I played it were hard to top. I wish I could go back in time to the early 90's having never played it and relive those thrills again. Finding the switch palaces, finding all the hidden levels in the levels with a red dot.

Mario 64. Again, the sheer feelings of wonder and youth. I wasn't young when I played this but it made me feel very young indeed. Going back to do it all again is nice but it's just not the same. Once the Wii gets cheaper I will get one and play through Galaxy. I have played it but not for long (was at a friend's for Christmas).

Fallout 3. Of all the games that I just don't want to be over I think this ranks the top. I keep installing shitty DLC and mods just to try and keep the flame burning. Some are O.K but none of them really match that feeling that it gave to me for so long. I've also noticed now that I can find my way around swiftly and never ever get stuck any more or lost. When I first got it there was so much to take in (reading maps, reading local maps, the hollow arrow thing etc etc) that it was so time consuming. Now? I think if I played through it again I could do it within a week. And that does seriously limit the second playthrough aspect for me.

So, if you could rewind time and start a game all over again which would it be?

Ultima VII Part 2. It wasn't so much a shame that it was over, it was a shame that after that they then decided to turn the series into a hideous 3D runny-jumpy platform fest.

Three words: Panzer Dragoon Saga. If it had been released on the PlayStation and not the Saturn, it would be this people would obsess over rather than Final Fantasy VII. I don't think I've ever fallen quite so in love with one game and I seriously didn't want it to end - I think I found every last secret that game had hidden in my bid to draw the game out for as long as possible.

Recently, Assassin's Creed or Bully. Both brilliant. I'll have to wrack the mind for older stûffe.

Yeah the XCOM games, fantastic value for money.

That and I suppose Doom, just for the introduction of the Cyber Demon.

R-Type or Myth on the Spectrum.

Maybe Syndicate or the first Civ game on the PC.

Or Freelancer.

Or Resi 4.

Space Quest 3, probably. I loved just about every minute of it and the ludicrous, lengthy ending both provided perfect closure AND made me wish it hadn't ended.

Loved SF I&II and Landstalker and would definitely put them on my list along with Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Flashback, Tomb Raider, Exhumed and possibly Bioshock.

Probably Baldur's gate, but only because it was the first long game I really got into, and it was never the same on subsequent plays.

Deus Ex. I still remember playing it one night at home, while the fambly made cajun chicken. Every time I cook with cajun, I remember that first playthrough of the Liberty island mission.

I'd say UFO, but I hated UFO at first. I didn't understand the way it worked at all (opportunity fire, for instance, seemed like incredible cheating), for I was young and stupid. It's not the early game that really does it for me. Although researching stuff for the first time ever and not knowing what's ahead would be neat. Also, apocalypse. UFO, but real-time, and with amazing music, and cultists, and city-wrecking combat, etc, etc. Lovely.

System Shock 2. I still remember playing that for the first time at my cousin's house one christmas. When we saw that first ghost, we just froze, and stared dumbly at each other, and were very reluctant to go any further.

Mount and Blade. It has a rough start (and a really lousy one in the released version, compared to the beta one I played years back), but the first time you lose your horse, then plant an arrow in a bandit's forehead and steal his horse... great beyond compare, frankly.

Elite is an obvious one, although it'd have to be a case of not remembering any other game up to that point, really.

Fallout 3, definitely for experiencing it for the first time. I was happy for it to finish by the end, though.

Jet Set Willy, actually. With the cheat and a speccy keyboard.

Some great games already mentioned (apart from Ass Creed ;) )

I'd have to agree with:
Ico (PS2)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
Resident Evil 4 (GC)
Space Harrier (Arcade) Blew me away seeing the hydraulic cab as a nipper.

Always wanted to play Panzer Dragoon Saga, I loved Orta on the Xbox

I'll add:
Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (PS1)

I'd like to have all my game memories erased, but keep my adult reflexes and hand-eye coordination. Yes, that sounds good to me. I could start with the old atari I have in the loft, work through my mates NES collection, play all the old SNES games stored on my XBOX1 and so on. Most satisfying

I can't think of any games I'd like to erase from memory and play again. I'm just looking forward to new games I haven't yet played (and that haven't yet been made). There's just too little time and too many great games I haven't played yet.

Most of mine would be N64...

Mario64
Mario Kart 64 for the multiplayer
Diddy Kong racing for the single player (multiplayer sucked)
Conkers bad Fur Day

Final Fantasy VII.. yeah, I know. But I got it when it came out & played the bugger all the way through. There was just one stupid thingy in a sewer I missed during the story that meant I couldn't get all the wotsits. (I can even remember the small room in London where I was when I watched the final sequence)
Sure there's more but cant think of em now :D

Btw, Super Mario Galaxy is no substitute for the awesomeness of Mario64 back then. its a bit shonky now I admit, but Galaxy seemed a bit... meh.

Rez, especially the running man boss.

Perfect Cherry Blossom. Oddly, me & shooters didn't get on until I discovered bullet hell, this was my introduction.

The Lost Vikings, it still has it's charm but when you remember the solutions to the puzzles several years on it's not as much fun.

Bubble Bobble, but I don't want shouted at for putting all my pocket money into the machine this time.

Except on the CPC. GTA for the pre-schoolers.

Pity it was bugged so you couldn't complete it. On the "hard" setting (i.e the one you should have been playing if you were aged over 5) when you rounded up the sheep for the second time the game crashed.

Somehow the game sold shedloads, was voted budget game of the year 1989 and yet you couldn't complete it!

Mind you, at the very same time Robocop was number 1 in the 8 bit charts for *18* months. Imagine some bland piece of software hogging the top of the charts for ages, couldn't happen these days of course.

I never knew there was an Amiga port:

One online source says the Speccy version had the same bug as the CPC version thereby also rendering that version not possible to complete.

Punch the fat kid so he fell over and made the screen shake?

Come into the classroom punching each kid out of his desk as you walk past? And then the little swot who tries to tell on you gets given lines for 'telling tales'?

(note: the above based off the 1999 remake)

You could stop the swot from grassing by constantly standing and sitting on his chair. It was a nice bug on the Speccy version that meant he could never usurp your seat from you, unlike the other kids.

I'll have to try that in the PC version... I do wonder if he'll just use the split second that I'm out of his seat to jump back in?

I've probably played through Super Metroid over 500 times since 1994, but I'd give my entire ballsack to be able to play it for the first time again.

Ditto the MSX version of Salamander.
