Are there any out there (or any other software that can be used in conjunction) that you can use to 'subscribe' to certain TV programmes, a bit like the way you can with podcasts in iTunes? I hate having to remember to download stuff, and it'd be really cool if it'd just do it for me.

Am I asking for the moon on a stick?

uTorrent can, and there's a plugin for azureus I think, and there's, um, something else too.

So just use uTorrent, because it's ace.

There was a forum I used to be on that (I think) used RSS feeds, which somehow enabled people to download stuff as soon as it came out.
I never got round to trying myself, so I have no idea if/how it works.
If I couldn't be bothered to download it, I probably couldn't be bothered to watch it.

Lots of ways. Azureus, uTorrent, or most other decent clients can consume RSS feeds. You have to be cunning with the filters to make it download the right stuff though. Also, check out ted.

I already use μTorrent, but I've not seen an option to be able to do this.

Add RSS feed is the first step.

From where? Torrent sites? I should really have a look at this when I get home and not when I don't have the client in front of me.

Yes, most of the major torrent site do RSS feeds, sometimes big general ones, sometimes smaller ones specific to a particular TV show. The TED app I linked to will aggregate several feeds across different sites, which I found to be quite useful.

Step 1. Find torrent site of choice with RSS feed
Step 2. Magically feed the RSS feed into μTorrent
Step 3. Something to do with filters
Step 4. Profit Wait for your hard disk to get filled up with programmes you can't even remember you want to watch.

Step 5. Get SkyHD, which allows you to get to Step 4. without messing around with Steps 1-3.

Yeah, but if the twonks at Sky now split The Deadliest Catch into two bits seperated by six months of waiting, I'm downloading the episodes from internets. Actually, I just do that anyway as the US version is eleventy bajillion times better than the UK scotch voiced man one.

(as an aside, where does the '??? -> Profit' thing come from? I've seen it used (and used it myself) for years, but have no idea where it originated from)

It was popularised by Slashdot, but originated with the Underpants Gnomes in South Park, as Joans said.

What Beardy off of the Internet said up there; TED is good, occassionally flakey and needs a restart but it's served me for a while now and has a fairly comprehensive list of teevee shows (you can also add custom searches).

Christ, I know what you need. It's a TLA, and a man's name.
Give me ten minutes, and I'll remember.
