I'm stuck. Got my 360 going into my PC wiht a crossover cable. I go to my internet connections, select my 3G usb modem. I go into connection details and get this lot.

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description: 1.3G
Physical Address:
DHCP Enabled: No
IPv4 IP Address: 94.196.196.9
IPv4 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
IPv4 Default Gateway:
IPv4 DNS Servers: 195.27.1.1, 141.1.1.1
IPv4 WINS Servers: 10.11.12.13, 10.11.12.14
NetBIOS over Tcpip Enabled: No

Then I go into Properties>Sharing and tick "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection". I then have to select a networking conneciton from the list - I go to Local Area Connection as that's my ethernet port. There's LAC 2 and 3 but those are for use by VMWARE.

First it tells me some stuff about dialling and things already being on, then I eventualy get a Error: 765 which si to do wiht ip address clashes I think. Cannot enable shared access.

Anyone able to talk me through this without me having to learn loads of stuff tonight?

Yeah apparently a normal cat5 will do. Trying with both, still not sure how it all works, keep getting that error message. Can't play bezzies at all until sorted :(

have you made a bridge?

Select both network connections, right click -> bridge connections.

Turn off and on again.
Bam
Works

There's no option to do that. Would be if I had a landline but I'm on 3G mobile internet.

Best guess: ICS wants to use 192.168.0.1 as its IP address, but some other adapter already already has that assigned.

ICS provides a second connection. In XP you right click on the connection and 'share' it.

You then map a static ip address to the connection (192.168.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 should work) and connect the 3g dongle to the internet.

Set the xbox to static ip (192.168.1.2 same subnet as above but set the gateway to the same address as the computer). If all is well, that's all you need to do. That's all I did and it worked fine.

That was XP though. Hope that helps.

I'll try that tomorrow cheers. Hope this all just works when my router arrives next week for broadband. My exchange is not unbundled so I'm paying over the odds for slower but there's only 300 properties in the exchange and it is a couple of hundred yards away so I'm looking at 7 meg, which is more than three times as fast as I used to have.

My shots in CoD4 may actually connect, now.

I've just had a bacon and egg sandwich with Reggae Reggae Tomato Ketchup. I got Broadband yesterday, now when I go into thing and highlight my ethernet to 360 and my wireless connection to my router, right click and 'bridge' it works.

Problems: The PC will BSOD when downloading things sometimes, I got Trials done but it did BSOd once so I had to reset things. It's quite a sudden quit. If I post hte bug doodah can someone tell me what's going on, or how best to find out?

Sometimes I have to unbridge to get internet access on my PC again. Trying then to rebridge does not seem to work, I haev to restart everything.

Not quite ready for online play again yet as a result. Getting there though.

That's just a generic error message, it's the minidump file you'll need to look at to find out what happened

I'm downloading a bunch of debugging tools to see now, stupid that Vista can't read its own error messages out of the box!

OH FOR FUCK'S CUNTING SAKE.

Drive to fucking Cwmbran, get dongle, plug the cunt in - it doesn't see my router. In the next room. About three metres away.

It sees my N95 when used as an access point
My N95 sees the router.
My PSP sees the router.
My laptops (4) see the router
Both my DS see the router.

Why the fucking hell can this thing not see the fucking router then?

Microsoft's advice? The router isn't good enough to broadcast the signal - please get some Ethernet cable and run that from the 360 to the router.

WELL IF I COULD DO THAT I WOULDN'T BE GETTING A FUCKING DONGLE FOR ARSE-RAPE PRICES, WOULD I?

I am so fucking sick of this shit, I want to smash something now.

Sanity check list:
Router is broadcasting SSID
Router security isn't 'odd'
Reboot Router

Done all those, then tried turning off the WPA - PRESTO! Unsecure access for all devices. SSID was indeed visible to all else though.

Odd thing is that the O2 router didn't want to let anything on unless I gave it security, though now for some reason it doesn't have a problem.

I'm fairly sure the 360 dongle only does WPA1 and not WPA2.

I'm not surprised. Your internet dongle rage issues date back as far as 2005. :DD

I've got my 360 connected via a long ethernet cable, if that helps.

Hurrah, provisionally.

Will leave things unsecured for a while and see how it all goes.

Nonetheless I still should be able to use bridging and sharing without it BSODing or whatever, still miffed. Cheers all for input.

I'm absolutely sure. I've come across this issue in the past.
