The demo just came out on PS3, out on 360 soon too I imagine.

Pretty good. Fun brawler + Spinter Cell as the goddamn batman.

Going to take about six hours to download. My ISP's throttling of EVERYTHING but web/email in the evening's is fucking annoying, but I guess it's not completely unreasonable.

I'ld pretty much say it's completely unreasonable actually.

I pay Sky, but it comes up as EasyNet when I do speed tests and such.

I dunno, it just feels that being out in the middle of rural Kent, having any broadband at all is a bonus and if the torrenting and downloading huge files has to be limited during peak hours so our web connections don't die on their arses, so be it. I may be misunderstanding the technical reasons behind all this, though.

Anyway, Batman Arkham Asylum, awesome. I played it again before work this morning and everything.

Sky don't throttle my connection at all. In fact, they make a big song and dance about it being completely unrestricted and uncapped (I am on the Max tariff, though).

Sounds like he's on the Sky out-of-network service, not the LLU one. That one works differently.

Yeah, I'm on the "you live in a tiny village miles away from any sort of technology" tariff.

My mobile phone can only pick up GPRS data, for example. No Edge, no 3G, nothing fancy like that.

This game is going to be ruddy awesome, isn't it? I played a little of the demo last night. One of the first cells you can enter in the Asylum suggests The Riddler might even make an appearance in the game. I seriously cannot chuffing wait for this game now!

I've heard this is just Splinter Cell but in a Batman skin. Is this true? If so, doesn't everyone hate Splinter Cell here?

It's not really. There is a lot of stealthy stealthy, but also lots of facey breaky.

It's a lot more fun than Splinter Cell anyway.

The whole ram raider thing coming true means I'll be very, very wary of reviews and that.

Plus, you know, there has never been a good batman game, so....

Still It would be awesome if it was awesome.

Actually, there have been a number of good Batman games ACTUALLY.

Not just the Spectrum ones.

How about Batman: The Movie, available for multiple formats but especially the Amiga - IT WAS GOOD.

How about Batman Returns on the SNES - IT WAS ALSO GOOD.

How about Batman Returns on the Mega CD - IT WAS OKAY I GUESS.

How about Batman Begins on Eggsbawks - WELL, I QUITE LIKED IT.

Hmmm?

I enjoyed Batman the Movie also. But I played it more on my Speccy, so included it there.

Batman the Movie was ok apart from the sub-Bionic Commando platforming levels. They were just gash.

I would at this point like to risk being [further] outcast from the forum by actually saying that I kinda preferred the C64 version of the game (bearing in mind I've not played the Speccy one) because *gulp* I thought the side-scrolling Batmobile and Batwing bits are better than the Outrun-style-e bits of the Amiga and ST versions?

The platforming levels were the bestest part.

Indeed. Take away the platformy bits and you're left with the shitty batmobile boredom level, and the matching shit to make Smilex puzzle.

Was Batman Returns much different on the Snes? From what I can remember the Mega Drive version was considered to be pretty crap with the Mega CD levels improving it a bit with the additional driving bits.

See also - Cliffhanger + snowboarding bits.

I loved Batman - The Movie - The Game APART from that wretched puzzle where you had to find out what Smilex was in. I've never got my head round those kind of puzzles.. It was too hard for me.

That was the easiest one. I remember being really bad at the platform levels and okish at the Batmobile/Wing levels. I was only seven when we got it, though.

Is there a batman game that takes on board the fact that he is THE WORLDS GREATEST DETECTIVE!?!

I want a bunch of CSI style stuff in the game. And I want to have to solve riddles. Hell make if first person so that I can properly investigate crime scenes. And it can control like Mirror's Edge.

I want to take my sample from the murder scene and go Back to the Batcave and match it to guy who runs a strange lab, which I then have to work out how to break into (platforming vs puzzle vs beat your weigh in). I want to have to chase a bad guy across city roof tops, and out run the cops.

I want to have to meet Commissioner Gorden on top of the police building.

I want the game split into discrete chapters (all taking part in the same open world if possible) that I get ranked on after completion - Hitman style. The more batman you behave the better.

I want to have to race across the city to find where deadeye has hidden himself to assassinate somebody.

I don't want to walk from left to right beating up people.

Very different - the SNES game was a scrolling punch-the-villainous-scamps-in-the-face-alongside-other-offensive-moves-utilised-in-order-to-incapacitate-and-imobilise-ones-foes-em-up, a la Final Fight or Streets Of Rage.

If this game doesn't make you feel like Batman, then, um... well, this game makes you feel like Batman. The final room, where it's just you and four chaps with big guns is brilliant. Picking them off one by one, seeing them get more nervous as they find the unconscious bodies of their friends, it's just great. The stuff leading up to that is good, but it's just an extended tutorial.
