2 themes to this thread

1) To talk about games where the pack in bonus game is far superior to the actual game they are selling. I can only think of three: Geometry Wars in the Project Gotham Racing snorefest, Indiana Jones and the Search for Atlantis being in the new Wii shit Indy game, and....

2) NAZI ZOMBIES!

Me and lady friend have become addicted to this. In many ways it is better than L4D. Here are some reasons why it is ace:

  • They are Zombies and not infected. They waddle around, and at later levels where they d0 get fast (boo hiss), they run in a manner in keeping with Night of the Living Deads Zombie.
  • They are Nazis.
  • You can't win, they will kill you, it's inevitable.
  • You get to repair reinforcements and shoot zombies as they try and break in, and it all gives you points to spend on guns.
  • In classic risk/reward gaming you can open up new areas allowing you to find better guns to buy (including such wonders as the extremely rare 50's art deco ray gun) but in doing so you leave yourself more open to zombie attacks.

And some on it's flaws:
  • It makes you realise that, in typical style, Activision would rather Treyarch be known as the shitty makers of reskinned CoD toss, when they could be known as the producers of superb, perfectly crafted Arcade masterpieces. I really feel for Treyarch now - let them make what they want to make!
  • Instead of putting this on XBLA for supertime they've had to hide it inside a £45 piece GENERIC-O-MAXIMUS game. You even have to force your way through the ENTIRE tedious game to unlock it too.
  • They've managed to perpetuate this idiocy too. In order to buy the two more maps available as DLC you have to buy the boaring CoD stuff that comes with it. Putting each additional Zombie map at £6.80.
  • Talking of the DLC I can't help mentioning that if you don't buy the DLC and you do attempt to play CoD4: reskinned warfare then you can look forward to be constantly dumped to the market place screen everytime a DLC map comes up in rotation. There is NO WAY around this.

I really can't express how good it is, but at the same time I really can't recommend you buy it. I got it on Goozex, and I meant to trade it back in, but I doubt I will - so that says something.

That's not true. We rented it, and didn't finish it, and could still play it. I'm pretty sure it was an option before we'd even started the game, in fact.

It was great fun, mind. It did annoy me that you couldn't have more than two people playing it on the one console, though, especially as you could do so on regular multiplayer.

At release you had to finish the game to unlock it, at a later date they patched it so it was available from the get go.

I've said before how much I like this, it's the only thing stopping me from trading it in. That, and the fact it's one of the only 360 game my mate Bob in Oz has.

I'm trying to think of games within games now. I can't think of any that were better than the main game but some that were good were the Sinistar clone within Mega-lo-Mania (not sure if that was just the Mega Drive version?) and the Defender clone within Gloom which was as blocky as the main game but was still pretty playable.

Oh, and the snowboarding arcade machine in FFVII was brilliant - second favourite snowboarding game after 1080 on the 64.

There was a training simulator in Wing Commander that let you play against endless waves of attackers. It was surprisingly fun, but it had dire music on a short loop. And the main game was excellent anyway.

The "Romero's Hero" zombie game in Saint's Row 2. Animal Crossing on the GC also had entire emulated NES games if you purchased the NES from Nook.

That was a great feature - I think I only ever got two though. I don't suppose the Wii version has anything like that?

My flatmates and I spent weeks on that snowboarding game! It was brilliant!

Haven't came across any so far. I suspect shenanigans to try and get your to buy on the Wii Shop thing.

Switchblade 2 on the Amiga had the precursor to Venus the Fly Trap in it: it was exactly the same, but with crap balls instead of insects. I believe it may have been called Chrome.

Impossible Mission 2025 had the original inside it.

The way I played it was the other way around.

Is it Cub3d in GTA IV? That's good fun.

Still not getting CoddyWoddyWowzers. Lave, if you think that Treyarch are the geniuses that they really aren't, have a look at their softography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treyarch. Not one brilliant game that I can see there. CoD3 earns some points for the decent multiplayer, but the rest looks incredibly shonky.

I remember reading about that in C&VG, but didn't realise it was ever released.

Not strictly playing by the rules here, but the card game in FFVIII > FFVIII.

CoD6:MW2 is going to have CoD1 in it, and that version of CoD1 will later be released on XBLAH/PISSYNAN.

Yep. I might just buckle and pay £55 just for CoD1, to be honest. CoD2 is one of my all-time favourite single player campaigns.

I loved that card game. It was just a shame that it took an age to load up and then after you had to wait a while for it to load the main game back in after

£55 seems an appropriate price entry point for CoD1.

Montezuma's Return included the original Montezuma's Revenge, which was a nice little bonus, albeit still fiendishly hard and confusing to play with.

Didn't Sega Rally 2006 come with the original Sega Rally?

Apparently Metal Gear Solid 4 came with a game. I watched the whole thing and couldn't find any, though.
