*although, not that much, preferably.

Right, I asked in the B'n'B Thread if such a thread was already in existence. The stony, mocking silence such a question was met with fell on deaf ears. Just as well, as it was silent.

Right, monkeys. As you may or may not care, my PC has died, I don't know why, and am loathe to pay some spoddy kid 100 of your earth pounds to find out why. I am going to hazard a guess that it is the motherboard or the graphics card. I personally think it is the memory on the graphics card, but what do I know. "Yes, yes" you are all saying, desperate to know where you, YOU, fit into this grand scheme. Well, let me tell you. I want a cheap, and when I say cheap, I mean cheap, graphics card to test out what is wrong. I obviously don't want an expensive one as I don't know what has caused this, so I may blow it up.

Summary:

Does anyone have a PCI-e 16x or less graphics card they would be willing to part with for small change.

Thank you for your time, love and hugs,
Bobby.

I think I've got one here. I'll check, but it's yours if you come and get it.

It's this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6814241020
So it's PCI, not PCI-E. Sorry.

I spent thirty notes on a geforce 7300gs white box job in Maplin when the same happened. Fine for Aero/Oolite but not testing new Llamasoft stuff. I'm glad I got it as Cyberpower are sending my Radeon back to ATI and having me wait while they get it back before sending me a new one, for some reason. Not like I've got work to be getting on with, is it?

I imagine that's more than you were looking to spend but I think they had a cheaper one still. It's a decent spare card for emergencies at any rate.

I have an AGP card if that's any good to you. £10.

Thanks anyway.

I assume a PCI is not compatible with PCI-e? I have an Abit kn8 ultra board which claims to have PCI slots, but they appear to be data ports only.

Edit, I took so long to reply two more people posted! :)

I don't have an AGP slot sadly, thanks though Gaz.

GY, you just reminded me I have a Maplins "voucher" from a return I made a year or so ago. I shall see what they have. Thanks.

Actually, I lie, well I got confused. The MB has 3 PCI slots, one of which I have a sound card into, and 3 data PCI-e x1 slots and 1 PCI-e 16x slot. Will a PCI graphics card, like above, work in a PCI slot like I have?

Should do, but check the mobo manual.

depending on the age of the card and the mobo, there may be a voltage issue, but we're talking like 8-9 years old

A PCI GFX card will not work in a PCI-e slot. Otherwise the one sitting on my desk would be fine.

No, I realise that, but I have 3 PCI slots on my MB also, but I don't know if there is a difference between a graphics PCI slot and (for example) a sound card PCI slot. I would guess not, but...

No. The general rule is that if it'll go in easily, it's meant to go in.

Hurr.

Quite. But the question was about pci cards in pci slots. Pci-e is a different slot. Fnar

Not the one I was answering.
