Questions are a burden, and answers a prison for oneself.

Remakes. ARRRRRRRRgghhgGGHGHH!

The only way I can see this being good is if they cast an excellent number 2 each week.

If they turn it into shooty, shooty explosions action drama I shall be annoyed.

It might be okay if you just take it as inspired by the original Prisoner. Clearly it's impossible to replicate the original with that being so incredibly of its time (whilst still being brilliant).

It wouldn't work in this day and age. But perhaps they could have done it slightly more in line with the original. I'm not sure.

Well, controversially, I liked it. I liked it enough to stop watching after the villagers shows him the Statue of Liberty sketch.

I await dissapointment.

I've been to Portmeirion. It cost me about £7 to get in and there's literally nothing to do there.

Nonsense, there's loads to do.. It mostly involves wandering aroung looking at whimsical Italianate architecture and rhodedendron bushes, admittedly, but is £7 well spent IMO.

I caught the first half of this trailer. It looks quite good, and I look forward to it, but it will never match the original.

Things I liked in the trailer:

1: Ian McKellen. Only Leo McKern and George Baker outmatch him. And Eric Portman, obviously, I mean, Portman is a God-like acting superbeing. And...

2: Rover. Awesome moment.

3: The lead seemed a likable confused everyman. Don't even try to match the stalky-starey McGoohan, go for empathy.

4: The village looked pretty cool. As any fule kno, 50's US suburbia = creepiness!

5: Snappy dialogue.

Things I'm not sure about or hope will be in:

1: Truly ethnic multicultural village - as in people from all over. This was an integral part of the mystery of the original, who the hell runs the village who needs all these different people?

2: Keep the Number 2's enigmatic. Don't have them talk too much and reveal things. Keep them chipper and catchy and matey and ever-so-awfully-how-do-you-do-sinister. Only let the mask slip when they talk to the unseen Number 1/Overlords.

3: Don't over-egg the sinister pudding. The village looks like a pleasant place to spend a few days, the horror came when they started the interrogations, and when they destroyed you mentally and spiritually. Don't have it overtly hostile.

4: The original was quite funny, keep the funny.

5: Complete near crushing defeats and very-tiny victories for Number 6 please. But he always bounces back!

6: Needs small guy with brolly.

7: Have Kramer be a Number 2. Or Newman. Or both.

8: Write last episode off face on whiskey and drugs. Pet Sounds 'Sloop John B' for the gunfight. "I wanna go home, this is the worst trip, I've ever been on!" COME ON, DO YOU NEED IT SPELLING OUT FOR YOU?


Overall looks promising. Any Prisoner fans who start whining about how America is going to ruin one of their fave shows, I sympathise would point out that I view the Beeb as being far more adept in ruining fave shows, and that America is having a golden age of telly at the moment - Supernatural, Mad Men, The Wire, Generation Kill, House, BSG/Caprica - lots and lots of stuff they're doing is clever and ace and big budget. Yays! So now's the time.

That's good Gill, because it's great. I haven't seen it for years mind, I'm waiting until I finally forget most of what happens so that I can be pleasantly surprised and enchanted again.
