nVidia display + specific monitor + goofy glasses = 3d gaming. With a lot more game support than I thought. RE5 is going to support this technology.

Image

Terrifyingly, I have all the kit I need to do that except the glasses, which are (gulp) $200. I'd have to dust off my old CRT monitor though. I wonder how effective it is. It's the kind of thing I'd love to have a go on. I've seen a couple of 3d films at the cinema recently and found them incredibly effective; there's no reason this can't be just as good.

I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison of this with the old 3D stuff the Sega Master System had.

I think my old Dell (Sony tube) Trinitron goes up that high. It was hellish expensive.

When messing with Trackmania earlier, I discovered that you can set it to do anaglyph 3d. I may have a go later.

What's so special about the glasses? I thought they'd be pretty simple.

Those bloody glasses really weren't designed for people with big heads. Every time I used mine I'd worry I'd snap them.

I watched the 3D episode of Chuck, but one of my eyes is stronger than the other, so the only bit I got for real 3D was the knife being thrown at the camera.

If these glasses work a different way to the red/blue separation then I hope would be able to see proper like what everyone else could.

Yes.

There's probably some early-adoptor scalping going on here, and they can't be expecting to sell that many of these so there's no economies of scale on the manufacturing process. It looks like they consist of:
  • Some means of turning each lens opaque and then clear again 60 times a second.
  • Li-ion battery to power that mechanism, with charging circuit.
  • Wireless syncronisation to a USB doodad.

So fairly simple, yes. They're not passive though like the ones you get at the cinema.

At 200 sponds you'd hope they'd work differently. How do you get on with the polarizing glasses you get at the cinema for 3D films now? They seem to work a fair bit better than the coloured lenses.

I've got the mental image of Viz's "3D Hypnospacker Epileptic Wanking Goggles"* now.

*Or whatever they were called

To my shame I haven't been to see any yet. A normal ticket at my cinema is £7.50 so I cannot justify the extra for 3D which never seems to be available on Orange Wednesdays.

This 3D stuff will never take off. Not even Peri's tits in 3D managed to get it off the ground in 1993.

There's a catch. Framerates are going to halved (as it doubles each frame for each eye), so if anyone is thinking about it, you better have a good card.

Yes, there's a list of cards that can do it. And the framerate will be 120 / 2.

I think it would probably start off awesome with 3D boobs swinging hypnotically, but then it would take a more frightening turn as you end up diving out the way of the huge nob cumming out your monitor.

That's the exact reason the BBC abandoned the 3D version of The Two Doctors:

3D films royally screw with my eyes, so I'll pass on any future 3D games. I had to take my glasses off 15 minutes into Coraline after my eyes got so tired they started hurting. It was much less painful to watch the rest in blur-o-vision.

So this is virtual reality, yes?

OH! It is another throwback technology to the 80s!

How much longer do I have to wait before there is a game where Trevor and Simon lunge at the screen every five minutes? The wait is intolerable!
