Fucking Facebook did that! Cunts! Because I got the link to the video from Facebook, they changed the YouTube URL to a Facebook redirect one. Sorry about that.

No idea about any of that, but Richard Herring is currently trying to reclaim the Hitler-tache in the name of comedy and democracy.

The Guardian Gets it Wrong

Quote:
This year, veteran comic Richard Herring is sporting a Hitler moustache for his show, Hitler Moustache, in which he argues "that racists have a point"

Quote:
One recent episode aired Herring's purported hatred of Pakistanis, a routine that he expands on in his new standup set. In another routine, he claims to support the BNP's policy to deport all black people from the UK. Into the awkward laughter that greets this joke, he says: "Don't go thinking I'm the new Bernard Manning. I'm being postmodern and ironic. I understand that what I'm saying is unacceptable." Then he pauses. "But does that make me better than Manning, or much, much worse?" This is "playing around with things", he tells me: "it's the intent behind it that's the important thing."

Oh, no. This is that clip from that Hitler film where he goes nuts with all of his officers and stuff. People have changed the subtitles. I only know about Herring through his Twitter, was just being silly and that. :hat:

See, I searched all around, and printed it out and showed 100 people, and none of them could detect any humour. So I assumed you weren't joking. How silly of me!

I was quite annoyed with that article. Not necessarily to defend Herring, but because they could have written it 5 years ago, far more forcefully, about Ricky Gervais's material but chose not to. They are now claiming this is a 'new thing' whereas it isn't in the slightest, just that the people doing it aren't all so media-luvvie-centric now.

Al Murray is a bit of a cunt though.

Herring appears quite upset about what has been said, although he too has noted that on the same day that the Guardian named and shamed him in that article for his antics on the podcasts, the Guardian listed the podcast in the top ten comedy podcasts - work that one out.

Herring's Response wrote:
I feel Brian Logan has somewhat misrepresented my comedy and taken several lines out of the context. In my show "Hitler Moustache" Logan states that I argue "that racists have a point". This is just the starting point of an ironic and subtle routine in which I argue that in some ways racists are closer than liberals to seeing all people as the same. The show as a whole, far from examining my hatred of Pakistanis (another out of context quote from a routine intended to demonstrate the ludicrous nature of racism) is about trying to change the meaning of the toothbrush moustache so that it is no longer associated with Hitler and to make it an anti-fascist symbol as a way of encouraging people to vote to ensure that the BNP never get elected again.
Logan has seen the routine in which he believes I claim "to support the BNP's policy to deport all black people from the UK." In it I argue that anyone who votes for the BNP should never be allowed to vote again (something that a liberal audience often cheers and applauds) but by taking that position am sucked into a spiraling argument in which by advocating such a thing I become as bad as the fascists I am attempting to fight and will end up having to vote for them myself. He has not only slightly misquoted the line, but by taking it out of context makes me look, as he has done throughout much of the article, as if I am saying the exact opposite of what I am actually saying.
Yours
Richard Herring

Surely he would have been a victim of Mr Toulouse and his ToS relating to usernames before this was ever an issue?
