From the Mirror today:

Quote:
Prince Charles last night warned the world faced a "living hell" unless global steps are taken to tackle climate change within eight years.

...

"Surely, we all want to bequeath to our children and grandchildren something other than the nightmare that now looms." He said the current way of life was failing and a new approach was vital, adding: "If we don't face up to this then nature, the biggest bank of all, could go bust."

"We only have 96 months left... to take the necessary steps to avert irretrievable cliamte and ecosystem collapse. If we fail the Earth, we fail humanity."

Somewhat chilling stuff. I always thought he always presented the whole issue of pollution and possible climate change very well - instead of hysteria, he said that we can't destroy the world so much as change it in a way that is uninhabitable by humans.

He certainly chooses his words very well, it certains has helped my imagination come up with some 'living hell' existence, trawling through the decaying remnants of civilization eating rats and moss and such.

So, best buy that studded leather clothing and enormous muscle car or you can't be in our gang of murderous rapists. Who drive everywhere searching for fuel. Yes.

Sweet. As the first thing that will happen will be a bloody coup, installing me as leader of the Theocracy.

I saw a bit of his lecture last night. He may have made some good points but I don't know because the bit I saw was rambling nonsense and so I turned over.

I thought that after five or so years it went a bit poorly unless you put special capsules into it.

Not that it matters either, those who survive swine flu without mutating into trogs will face 'peak bees'.

Good on him. But as long as there's money to be made by 'mercian global corporations, they'll be pleased to grind children into foie gras for their butties.

When he started saying stuff that interested us? He's not like Prince Phillip you know, sometimes he speaks sense. Phil would just blame it on the darkies & go back to shooting pheasants.

I posted this because, like his last statement on the subject (which I paraphrased in the first post) he managed to get across the threat and dangers of climate change without sounding like a hysterical, preachy Prius-driving tree-hugging holier-than-thou cyclist-cunting 'climate change' arsehole.

You know, like these self-appointed do-gooders who hijacked a coal train in Selby in Yorkshire:

Network Rail wrote:
Two defendants impersonated Network Rail people and went on to the track to stop the train; the rest of the group, who took control of the engine and train, attached lines to the wheels to stop the train moving and unloaded coal.

“The protest caused delays to freight and passenger services – with minor delays reaching as far away as Manchester Airport,” said Richard Iggulden, commercial scheme sponsor. “Sixty-four trains were delayed (29 freight and 35 passenger), and we incurred over 600 delay minutes. There was also a bill of nearly £37,000 to clean up the coal dumped from the train.”

None of the defendants denied being on the train but told the jury they did not believe they were doing anything criminal because they were trying to prevent climate change.

Sentencing (likely to be community service) was adjourned until September. There will be financial penalties too – the Crown is applying for its costs and for compensation for the clean-up.

I'm all for protesting as it's important to free speech, but wankers like this who try to disrupt other people trying to earn a living really piss me off.

Absolutely, but the nutters get all the attention and turn genuine concerns and protests into pure OTT madness and drivel.

Did you chain yourself to a tractor and cause thousands of pounds worth of damage?

What am I saying, the answer to the question is obviously still yes! :DD

Unless you can explain what the advantages of using animals for research are, and why they are so important, and what the disadvantages are and propose a viable alternative, then, probably.

(Not you, personally, Dimmers, but in general, y'know)

Children. I couldn't give a shit about the human excrement walking the earth, so use them. The results would be more conclusive and applicable using a human subject, rather than the vastly differing biology of animals. Vivisection for inmates of young offenders institutions, obviously.

I'm sure those cunts would have been delighted when the power station ran out of coal and their power went off and they couldn't blend their lentil and alfalfa smoothies, or charge up their GeeWhiz.

As I said a while back:

Quote:
I've been watching the interview with the woman that threw the custard/whatever over Lord Mandelson (here) and I managed to get through 10 seconds of it before I started to twitch at her, and her "These are my views, and my views are right" attitude.... [People] should not be assaulted with impunity by protesters suffering from The Mentals when they disagree with their viewpoint. The very fact that the pressure groups, (such as Plane Stupid) keep doing things like this and then turn around and say "You're stifling protest after trespassing on a runway, or being arrested for assault, is beginning to get my goat.

Make teh fuckers sit down in Oxford Circus for 7 fucking hours then they can feel pissed off at what the police can legally do to control crowds.

No, because you are quite free to voice your opposition to
Quote:
dirty, barren, crowded conditions inside the breeding sheds, as well as unhealthy and dying guinea pigs.[4]

for example, without getting into some sort of hypocritical ethical fluster as you are implying.

I was referring to the antivivisection lot in general, but I take the point about conditions.

Although I'd rather that this didn't turn into a debate about vivisection, as that would be most not excellent.

About some stuff. Although the bit I saw he was railing on about how we let the empirical influence too many things and we should make more room for religion and spirituality to decide on the way forward. And then I turned over.

Dunno, isn't anyone else getting a bit of a Live-8 style "Fly Dozens Of Multimillionaires To Series Of Enormous Stadium Concerts In Order To Prevent Wasting Energy" feeling from this? It sticks in my craw a bit to be lectured on the evils of corporate consumer society by a bloke who lives in a fucking palace, you know?

Indeed. But on the other hand, he's kind of uniquely well situated to take a lead on stuff like this, where politicians and pop stars clearly aren't.

Meh. Sorry Myp, but 'protesting' tends to be inherently disruptive and hence will affect SOME 'other people trying to earn a living', almost by default. To think otherwise is pure NIMBY-ism?

Also this: Prince Charles would have a great deal more credibility in all of this if it wasn't for his unfortunate penchant for being chauffeur driven at high speed across entire continents in his (free of charge) Bentley motor car. Or private plane, for that matter.

Meh. Sorry Myp, but protesting tends to be inherently disruptive and hence will affect SOME 'other people trying to earn a living', almost by default. To think otherwise is pure NIMBY-ism.

Hmm. And to be honest, sometimes the problem actually is people blindly carrying on with business as usual, and a bit of placard waving and stuff might provoke a bit of shock and thought.

More often defensiveness and "GTFF"ness, possibly, mind you.

There's a big difference between a few roads being shut and a whole swathe of houses not being provided with electricity, say I.

Look, he's going to be King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland... and therefore by implication the rest of the world, really, because everyone knows it's ours because we've put the most effort in and invented all the good stuff.

On that basis, if he didn't make a big deal about this sort of thing, he'd be in dereliction of duty to his fate. I'm glad he's provoking debate and taking a lead.

No idea. It was Meaty's story, not mine. Anyway, stop being a hippy apologist, you hippy.

I've been on protests myself, btw.

Aye. But, it just seems that sometimes he reads something somewhere doesn't bother to make sure he is properly informed about it and then uses his status to start a campaign against it. He hates buildings that don't look like old castles or cottages, GM crops, nanotechnology (he got terrified about grey goo I seem to recall). I just think that as potential head of state he should take proper advice on things.

It just sounds a bit counterproductive!

Hmm, if it was the coal train story, I don't think that would be at all likely to cut the power off to a swathe of homes.

Inconveniencing masses of rail users via knock on effects is a bit of an own goal anyway though.
