Just watching the Winbleton final and noticed that a lot of (at least two!) women in the crowd were wearing 80's style aviator sun glasses. Are they back in fashion?

Very definitely yes.

You can get some pretty nifty ones in M&S for under £15.

The '80s came back about a year ago.

People have been wearing those stupid enormous sunglasses that are six inches too big for their face for at least a vcouple of years now. They still look stupid and soon everyone will laugh heartily at them, not just a minority of people with any sense of aesthetics.

Yes all that shit is back in. About a year ago I spotted a load of kids wearing Wham style T-Shirts and thought I had dropped through a time warp.

As the 80's were back in fashion I did pop into WH Smiths to check if they'd restocked the CPC games section, but alas it's now dedicated to stationary. AND STATIONARY HAS NEVER BEEN IN FASHION UNLESS YOU ARE MR CHRIS!

Big sunglasses, especially the ones with gaudy plastic frames, have been popular with posers for some times, yes. But '80s style aviators are the latest trend.

It's all too awful to contemplate. I shall have to go to bed.

Aviators have never gone away! Only wear them if they don't make you look like a cunt, though.

Sunglasses convey instant smugness. I'd rather squint.

I wouldnt say the aviators are the latest trend, they were "cool" about 3 or 4 years ago, and now those massive plastic ones are the "in" thing which hipsters seem to wear all the time.

I don't see the point in them, man up and just accept the sun for what it is.

I sometimes wear sunglasses because my eyes are ridiculously sensitive to light and I have to squint up my face like a wanking pervert on very bright days otherwise, or I can't see a thing. I work largely underground in low light too, so can't really train them up. On the plus side, my night vision is pretty damn good.

However, they are normal-sized sunglasses, because wearing anything bigger than your face on your face is fucking stupid.

They're still better than those horrible thin rectangular glasses with thick plastic frames that are the current trend among women. Eugh.

The 80s actually came back in 2001/02. Kitty-Yo/AWK/Fischerspooner et al. It's only been the last couple of years that the plebs have got into it though.

Aviators were last year, but are holding out among the unimaginative. I'm indifferent to them, but hope shiny black leggings carry on. I love 'em!

At work we have a cupboard labelled 'Stationary Cupboard' which makes sense I suppose as I've never seen it move.

Being a hayfever sufferer, I couldn't function in the summer months without sunglasses. Even if they are aviators. They were €3 from a stall in Rome though, does that help?

I got some of these which I suppose are sort of aviator style:

I just wanted some that weren't too small to be any real use and also I really don't like the 'futuristic' Oakley type ones with plastic frames.

Need I say more? I still haven't found a single woman who actually suits these shoes, or has any idea of what sort of clothing they match, yet they all still wear them. They make everybody's ankles look like kankles, too, as Mimi pointed out on Twitter.

Hmm. Like Mr Agent, I have crap eyes in the sun, and wear my sunglasses pretty much constantly when I'm outside.

Goodness yes. In full sun, they're not optional, they're "making it possible to go outside".

When I had my eyes fixed, I had incredible light-sensitivity for a couple of weeks. During the week between having each eye done, I had to wear a pair of glasses that was prescription lens on the left, non-prescription sunglasses lens on the right.

Get some prescription contact lenses and then you can wear glasses to correct your vision.

They are 2 years old though so unsurprising that I am now unfashionable. I still like them though.

Me too, though my Oakley riding glasses which are not fashionable at all, are pretty much the only thing I wear. Hell, I react to strong sunlight usually by sneezing quite violently if I don't have shades on and about four years ago on holiday on Skiathos I actually slipped a disc after sneezing twice. I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy.

Actually mine do not have the brown bits at the side they are open which makes all the difference. Possibly. ;)

I also have a rimless pair. What is the view on those? Maybe I should switch.

20-10. Means you can see details at 20 feet that an average person can only resolve at a distance of 10 feet. Hawks are about 400-10 or something equally bonkers.

I do this too. Apparently it's an inherited genetic trait. It's got a great name: Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst Syndrome, or ADCHOO! It's more commonly called a "photic sneeze". About 10% of people do it and no-one knows why, exactly. One theory is that it's literally a crossed wire between the optic nerve and a nearby nerve cluster that triggers the sneeze reflex.
