No, I have my scale 2 job. But there has only been one new job in several years, and they promised us these new posts, and I had my heart set on it, and I had big plans for the new music library, and had coached myself into acing the interview... and... a few days after saying that the go ahead had been given for the posts to appear, and these are REPLACEMENT POSTS for people they should have replaced who left ages ago, they turn around and say, actually, no, temps can do as good a job and we don't got no money sorry guv.

So I'm sitting in this expensive new building with lots of bullshit £5,000 a piece furniture on a scale 2 wage and absolutely no career prospects as far as I can see for the next fuck knows how long.

See AngryPete thread.

@AngryPete:

I had this exact thing when I worked for the Foreign Office. The place was undergoing a system rollout which involved the upgrading of 95% of the databases they used. Employ more people in my department. No. Employ Useless hack-job contracters who couldn't care less about the results after they left for more money than it would cost to train and employ a programmer for 5 years. Yes. Honestly some government departments seem like they are there only to spunk cash into a select fews eager wallets.

Of course, we get exactly the same thing deep in the middle of private enterprise, too.

Excellent. Now it is official.

I almost certainly won't have internet tomorrow, owing to moving into new digs. This is fortunate, as my anger is sure to mellow. However, I shall reacquire anger when I get back to work, where it is sure to flow in hidden bursts of messages to this site. Yes.

Now to become passive aggressive to the forum, as is the tradition when having one's user name changed, I believe. :ninja:

It was stage two of my plan, but I couldn't work out how to change the subtitle...

Sounds good, cloudy and buttery please, like a lovely glass of Addlestones. Mmm, Addlestones...

Anyway, in other news I've finally packed sixteen boxes of books, CD's, DVD's and records, assorted crockery and utensils, clothes, record player, DVD player, computer games and loads of other crap. Books filled five boxes alone, I forgot how much of a library I've got at home. I don't think I can bear to part with any of it either.

So, moving in the morning, here's to the new place. May it relax and soothe me so I can get a nice more clement name back.

I spoke to Pete earlier and he seems to have calmed down a bit today. Hopefully he won't get cross again when I tell him it's his turn to cook me and Lady R some grub tomorrow.

I have indeed calmed down a fair bit. I just moved into my new house and it is ludicrously immense. Light, airy, spacious, clean, big, lovely little garden with picnic table - it has everything the old place hadn't. We've got an apple tree, rhubarb plant, courgette plant, raspberry bush, blueberry bush, gooseberry bush (all in early stages) and a living room AND dining room. Carpets are lush, landlady seems a nice person if a little exacting (try not to wear shoes on the carpet) and she dropped off a bottle of wine. Also, when moving we found out that the empty box of Budweiser dropped in front of my window at the old place is in fact a full box of 18 bottles of Budweiser. We have no idea where it came from, but the suds washed down nice when we had a BBQ in the garden after a partial unpacking.

To be honest, in this wonderful new place that's closer to work, two minutes from my fave coffee shop (Shot in the Dark) and a nice local that serves Guest Ales (Poet's Corner - no Brains for me!) it's going to be deucedly hard to keep up the angry Pete vibe.

Though I'm sure my job will find ways. No internet for me for a few more days at the very least at home, btw. And I need to buy a computer desk. And some shelving.

Settled into new house. I so much like my new surroundings, that I actually get up early now, have my shower and then sit around drinking tea, reading and listening to African congolese mass in the form of Sanctus by Missa Luba*, whilst feeling hideously smug. Then I amble off to work which is now only a twenty minute walk away. Huzzah!

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, frankly. Hope it's not a muddy one on the nice carpet. Just need internet at home. Oh how I miss internet, and you guys I guess I suppose maybe yes. Yes.

Anyone up for a pint in the Albany/Poet's Corner this weekend or Monday?

*Remember that record that Malcolm McDowell keeps on obsessively playing in top surrealist public skool revolution film 'If...'? Well it's that one. It's ace.

Glad to hear all that Pete. Don't forget that in times of no internet there are Razzles to be found in shrubs.

Your garden sounds very fruity, planning on making BeeX jam at all?

Nicely settled into new house now, though with three chaps and a lass we're beginning to suspect that we're each filling the character types of Seinfeld. Adrian has the hair but not as many quips as I have for Seinfeld, whilst I have the quips but not the hair.

Excellently, our landlady is called Newman. We also have a friend who's a postal worker and completely debased, so we're wondering if he should be our Newman instead. Seinfeld is ace, I take the opportunity to attest to this again.

Anyway, I'm in the local coffee shop Shot in the Dark using Elain's Alice's laptop. I fear this is going to be my only connection for a fair whiles, as we have to get a cable installed before we can get internet. It's not yer average student digs, though it is an incredibly nice house, I attest again.

Just found out we have a surprise extra £75 each on the electricity bill from the last place to pay off, which pisses me off though. I figured the £50 we were all paying into an account for monthly bills would cover it. In the new house I'm going to be the bill-master, but can't decide whether to do the monthly thing, or collect money as we go. But yeah, argh, money.

AND THAT MAKES ME ANGRY.
