So remember how we all got outraged when China forbade all protest around the Olympics.

The beeb has just done a bit about how our Police will be able to destroy political material and posters near the olympics in 2012. They'll also be able to enter property without a warrant to get rid of it too.

Practice what you preach and all that.

Wait, so if I have a "Vote please" poster in my window, the police can break into my house to take it down if I am near the olympics.

Because, if so, fuck that noise.

Edit: Got a link mr. bad thread maker?

What the fuck... is that even legal? And if so, why the fuck wasn't there a debate before they passed that tidbit?

It was a short piece and so I may have misquoted it, and I can't find a link on the web about it anywhere for love nor money, but i'm pretty certain that is what it said.

At best it only applies to Shops, but I'm pretty certain they said houses too.

The example they used was some guy who was protesting the environmental impact on some place that is going to be used for the games with horsies.

Can I just post this from the Beeb, about something completely different:

Quote:
In the absence of a public inquiry into the 7 July bombings, conspiracy theories have filled the vacuum. One of the more inflammatory involves a man hiding behind an Arabic-sounding pseudonym taken from a sci-fi film starring Sting, says the BBC's Mike Rudin.

The 56-minute homemade documentary opens with a view from space and the words: "A message from Muad Dib".

This under the tag-line 'Sting in the Tale'.

Quote:
His alias, Muad Dib, is a fictional character in the science fiction film Dune, a film starring Sting and Kyle MacLachlan about inter-galactic freedom fighting, from which he seems to draw inspiration.

Or the book, you twats.

I wouldn't be surprised if the IoC insist on not seeing anything 'controversial' as they and their entourage zoom in their dedicated Zil lanes past us serfs.

I'm planning on being out of the country for the entirety of the jamboree.

[EDIT 'Zil' not 'Zim']

Closet I can find is this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7851358.stm
Quote:
Games firms sign 'gagging orders
...
Olympic bosses are making firms sign contracts which prevent them talking publicly about all details of the work for six years.
If a leak is suspected the contract allows the Olympic Delivery Authority to search a firm's premises and emails.

Ie - embarrass us and lose your contracts.

As far as I am aware, they can under the PACE legislation, although I'd have to hit on someone for confirmation. Basically, they can do that already for various reasons.

Companies are breaking the law if they stick up adverts that look like the product or company is in any way affiliated with the Olympics (to the extent that the mention of things like "Games" and "2012" in the same ad can get you in trouble)

Fucking bonkers.

Yep, "terrorist propaganda" visible from the street (eg a poster on your wall, and open curtains) means a rude wake up call.
