When Speed Racer was released I thought that looked the worst film ever made. CGI'd up the wazoo and Micheal-Bay-esque-you-can't-tell-whats-going-on-in-the-exciting-bits.

It got 37% on metacritic.

But I watched it and it is [i]fucking fantastic[/i[].

Maybe it just doesn't suit a big screen, but on tele it is acebest.

Maybe if you liked the cartoon it hurts to watch or something, but watching it without any history is just awesome.

It's like bubblegum pop.

So it seems universally panned and I loved it. Am I alone?

I'll give it a go if a 'review' copy does the rounds at work.

I was completely meh when I saw the trailer.

I would guess that it's the kinda movie to get up and watch whilst eating cereal.

It's a proper kids film, not in a pixar 'depthy' way, not in the horrible 'here's jokes for the adults' way that dreamworks like whilst stealing pixar IP and not in a 80s way.

But it's just BRUM BRUM BANG BANG PRETTY.

Just get past the awful first 20 minutes with a terrible kid actor. There is another kid actor straight after - but he looks like an old man, so thats quite entertaining.

I saw it at the cinema and enjoyed it. It was a very odd experience though being live action but very cartoony. Having Rose McGowan in it is a big plus. The racing scenes are brill.

The original cartoon is pretty terrible though.

Kermode liked it, and I think he made the same "bubblegum pop" comparison.

It has John Motherfuckin' Goodman in it. John Motherfuckin' Goodman has never been in a bad film. Ever. Ergo it must be brillo.

So many things disagree, but let's choose Evan Almighty, shall we?

No no no, see, that was Jon Goodman, his evil twin. Yes. Yes, that was it.

There are no others though.

Um.

I watched it with my nephew and both of us really enjoyed it. I only downloaded it because the racing bits looked pretty mental. I want to see it in proper HD now.

Gah, Speed Racer. Colourful screen vomit and horribly cardboard actors. Hated every one of the 35 minutes I granted it before deleting... erm, sending it back to LoveFilm
