This is a pub conversation i've had many times and would be interested in what, or should that be who, floats Beexers' musical boats.

The rules are thus:

The band must contain:
a drummer
a bass guitarist
a vocalist/frontman/woman
upto two guitarists, but not two lead or two rhythm guitarists, one of each please
one other musician, be it sax player, piano, harmonica, etc (optional)

your frontman/woman can play another instrument too but you then forego an extra person, i.e lemmy would take up vocals and bass, elton john takes up the optional extra and vocals

they can be living or dead

you can choose a person from any time in their career i.e Eric Clapton when he was with Cream rather than solo

no more than two members of the same band

Thats about it i think.
have a go

Drummer has to be Budgie
Vocals would probably have to be Siouxsie
Steve Severin on Bass
John McKay on guitar
Martin McCarrick on keyboards/cello.

Yes my fantasy band is Siouxsie and the Banshees. Hurrah it actually exists! Well apart from John McKay alongside those other members but the rest of them have all played together.

The problem is that if I were to put together my favourite guitarist, drummer and Bassist, it just wouldn't work, as they're such enormously different and incompatible styles.

Well Wino doesn't really fit in with mine, but it'd be a beautiful racket.

The vocalist should ideally follow on from Hendrix's lead and play his instrument while it is on fire.

Rhythm Guitar:Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, etc)
Lead Guitar and Vocals: Bernard Sumner (Joy Division, New Order)
Turntables: Mix Master Mike

Now that would something to hear.

Since searching on YouTube for footage of Alex Webster, I'll probably have to put Pat O'Brien in there too. Here they both are:

So!
Drummer: Proscriptor McGovern
Vocals/Guitar: Wino
Guitar: Pat O'Brien
Bass: Alex Webster

Seeing as other people have flaunted the rules here, mine will too:

Vox: Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr Bungle/Fantômas/Tomahawk/etc/etc/etc)
Rhythm guitar/vox: Aaron Turner (Isis/Old Man Gloom/Lotus Eaters)
Lead guitar: Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)
Bass: Justin Chancellor (Tool/Peach)
Drums: Danny Carey (Tool/Green Jellÿ)
Drums: Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)

Sting would have to be the bassist, or the band name of Slash 'n' Sting wouldn't work.
