Not the best weekend. First of all I find the removal men have dented my car and I can't prove it so no point doing anything about it. Then last night I manage to jam the roller doors on the store shed.

Yes for some inexplicable reason the store ajoining our new garage has a motorised roller door on it. Because normal doors just wouldn't do it seems. It's never been used as a garage so why roller doors were needed I don't know.

The first warning should have been the note from the previous owners saying that if you didn'y press stop before it reached the ground it would just continue going. Basically I think the thing is possibly fucked and could be used as some kind of Bond villain device to crush my enemies.

Anyway I was shutting it up last night and it jammed on the way down. I pressed stop and the thing started to go up and just kept on going. Now it won't budge. I daren't press the button again for fear of which way the thing will wind. Tried the manual winder and it doesn't do much.

Anyone have a set of doors like this? One side is now higher than the other and it's just jammed up.

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH NORMAL DOORS?

Piccies attached.

Don't talk to me about garage doors. The last flat we lived in it took them FIVE MONTHS to come and fix ours.

Sounds like your local repairmen are as useful as your local taxis.

Chinny - try hanging on the side that is too high while Mrs Chinny winds the manual winder downward.

I put one of these on our house a couple of years ago:

http://www.hormann.co.uk/uk/en/katalog/ ... /m_ribbed/

And got an electric opener for it because I am lazy. It still cost about half what firms wanted to come along and fit a standard metal one.

Good point. Much appreciated.

I still can't fathom why they had those doors put on. It's impossible for it to have been a garage.

It was more to do with the landlord not facing up to the inevitable fact that it needed a replacement door. We had a repairman out about six times to 'mend' the existing door. It just borked again a few days later each time.

The danger is it will pull up and jam more or will wrap around itself. It appears to have no cut out so is only really useful for crushing my enemies.

I'd be a bit concerned about the stop button not stopping it TBH. Is there a more convincing isolator switch somewhere?

Possible current states:

1) It's fucked beyond repair
2) It's fucked but a man can repair it
3) Pressing the button will solve problem, OR put it into states 1 or 2.

You've got nothing to lose by pressing the button.

The stop button does stop it. The problem is that it doesn't know when to automatically stop.

Oh, in that case, press the down button and help it*. If it doesn't move, press the stop button.

On ours there's a little lever you pull to completely disengage the motor from the door, you can then operate it manually, although ours is sectional rather than an actual roller door it might be worth having a look around to see if there's anything similar. Looking at your picture it seems pretty well jammed up.

There's no down button. There's one button that alternates between up and down and another stop button. It's like it was designed by Amstrad.

I have one of those but it had a rocker swtich.. one way for up, one way for down and it DOES stop when it reaches the end.

When you put the manual winder in it over rides the buttons so they stop working. If your manual winder is like mine, it's a long hexagon pole with a handle on it that fits up under the one side.

Anyway... I would find out where the isolation swtich is (Mine is right next to the rocker switch) and get ready to press that when you press the main button. Once it's gone all the way up (or down) you should be able to wind it manually the other way then?!? I imagine...

Can't you open up the switch and see if you can help it!!

If it's anything like the roller door where I used to work, you will need to pull the chain a thousand times to get the door down manually. Maybe that's why the chain doesn't seem to do a lot....? Was it a chain?

Can you move the stop button to the floor underneath the roller door?

You now owe me £500.

Pure genius. :)

I find that yanking on alternate sides whilst using the manual winder eventually does the job.

At least there's no chance of the door hitting him on the arse.

All fixed. The roll was sagging and snagging on the top of the feed mechanism. With much winding, prodding of the roll with a stick and me literally hanging off it, it freed up. Looks like it is liable to happen again at somepoint though blasted thing.

Hmm that'll happen if the edges of the door don't slide freely in the slots at the side. Maybe grease them and run the thing up and down a few times to free it up.

The doors are already greased. The problem is that if the door winds to far the roll becomes saggy it seems.
