We, the plucky workers of the non-fiction and music libraries who share floor 3, have just found out that a cordon will be placed around the Manics and assorted councillors, who have staked a claim on the music floor. This means we have to dismantle a massive shelving unit that, because it is eminantly not portable, may break in the process. Then we'll have to find a home for the scores. The area will be cordened off from 4:00 on Thursday, and we predict amusing indignation from our regulars. Apparently, no one who has been part of designing, building, furnishing or promoting the building has been invited. Us staff, obviously, haven't.

But! Excellently! Word has leaked out! To *cough* the Manics biggest fansite. So we're joyously hoping for an invasion that'll fox those snooty councillors, elbowing them sharply in a rush to get to their idols, thus spilling champers and canapes all over their suits.

We of the third floor, naturally, will be doing a pitch invasion. I shall be DISCOMFORTINGLY eccentric. Current idea is to have a banner reading:

Cardiff Library Welcomes The Levellers
.............................................Stuart Cable
................................................The Manics

Further suggestions welcome. I'll report when Thursday comes of the laughs.

*Chuckle*

Visual comedy aids may be difficult due to the fact that councillors are creatures with frightful smiting powers and insidious spies, but I shall be bodily interupting proceedings at least, and I shall try to take pics. "For the staff scrapbook. THE PROLETARIAN WORKING STAFF, YOU BASTARDS."

Set up a 'civic engagement' display in the lobby listing the details of all your local MPs', AMs', MEPs', and councillors' expenses.

This should be done after begging them to do an impromptu acoustic number. Once they start, you tell them to be quiet.

I almost feel sorry for them now, imaging the awkwardness of it all. But they agreed to do it, and requested it to be low key. So be it on their heads.

There was supposed to be a pianist as well, which I was looking forward to. This has now been replaced by a male voice choir. I'm not sure how we could possibly fit them in. Still no idea if the Manics have been basically paid to attend a tea party or not.

You should fight this. There's no good reason for disrupting a working library for this sort of thing, especially if it might mean damage to your shelving. I understand it's hard to make a fuss when it's orders coming down from above, but this is serious. It's the music floor now, sure, but if you tolerate this then your children's section will be next.

Well. Today's the day. Will I be won over and impressed by proceedings by the end of the day, ultimately forgiving the disruption and the shut-down of the music desk to accomodate beefy Welsh choir? The good news is, I am getting pics of the proceedings, or at least so far I am. They haven't turned up yet, but I've nipped beyond the cordon a few times and the manager (bless her) has okayed me snapping away.

Just signed up a couple of Manics fans, much punning. They seemed nice, despite y'know, being Manics fans.

Anyway, I'll sneak posts in when I can. Report on the food, disappointingly spartan: Welsh cakes, bara brith and fruit juice. The Manics eat like we proles!

I love it. Coming from a Welsh family, all my relatives seem to make it perfectly. If you slice it incredibly thinly and put a decent amount of butter on, it's heavenly.

Erm, Manics.

Well, I had a choice. Around two o'clock I was presented with the dilemma: Meet the Manics, or go for lunch and get a tasty panini. I chose the panini - after all, I am working until 7:00. Have I done wrong, BETEO's?

My fellow staff members did meet them though. Impressively, James recognised my colleague Dan from the Spillers instore gig, despite Dan having had a rather radical hair cut. Apparently they were sort of shy, and a bit resentful at being pushed around the library at such speed on the tour by their councillor keepers. But they did keep laughing at everything Dan had to say, thinking him hilarious, rather bafflingly, as Dan wasn't trying to be funny. They then had photos taken with some of the staff. The councillors walked past and completely ignored the staff, as usual. Rather criminally, they talked through the rather fine Welsh choir performance as well. I got some photos of that which I'm quite pleased with, the choir of amiable old duffers even did a cover of Design for Life.

I shall uncover more facts later. When I've got this place back to normal. It's going to take THREE HOURS to put that shelving back together again.

Make sure you put those shelves back together properly. The last thing you'd want is the books to topple off at the same time and Life Becoming a Landslide.

The bacon won't stand for it. Gives it a good slap if it tries to diddle around.
