I got up 45 minutes early and went to vote. (I know myself well enough to know that if I waited until after work I might decide I was too knackered to go out.) The polling station is way over in the west end of our village, further west than I've ever been before. Took me about twenty minutes to walk down there, but I was going slow in case I missed it. I found it easily enough, though - it was the place with the huge POLLING STATION signs up, funnily enough. (And discovered a new shop and pub on the way. Nice.)

Wasn't empty, even at half seven in the morning, with plenty of people coming in to vote. Was disappointed that I could only tick one box on the European Election ballot paper, so dithered a lot. I voted easily in the County Council elections, though. Fewer candidates, easier choice.

Anyway, my democratic duty is done. And I even researched all the parties and candidates before the election, not that it helped much. Basically, it's a question of deciding which of them is the least cunty cunt.

So, have you voted yet?

Yup, was just around the corner from me. I managed to get onto the electoral register in time but had a letter from the council rather than the standard poll card which confused the clerk briefly. Voting is so much easier now they have pretty pictures of the parties.

Didn't get a chance to read the bye-laws as I was in a hurry.

Probably full of boring stuff like not voting more than once and prohibitions on hanging outside the station with a large kosh or jug of ale to give to electors as appropriate.

Gonna go after work. A similar thread on a different forum I go on has turned into an argument about racism and it's pissing me off. The amount of people who seem to be voting BNP is alarming:

Admittedly, the thread was started by NW_SKINHEAD...

It's next to the little Tesco, by the pub....

Go figure.

I voted by post a few days ago. I largely abstained from voting other than to put a cross next to the BNP to show that I didn't want them.

People no the overclockers forums are grade a cunts in my experience. Especially after they banned me for telling a 17 year old chav that he'd find car insurance very reasonable after he had passed his first test, and that he should not accept a quote of more than 200 quid for his first car, and he should bargain the price down with them. And for saying that getting the bits of bodywork for an XR2 and sticking them on a normal fiesta to make it look like an XR2 was a waste of time and the only outcome would be getting a retarded spacker of a 14 year old for a girlfriend.

I realise Jonathan T Foreigner likes to break the sabbath and vote on a Sunday, but I do feel slightly queasy about the idea of ballots not being counted for three days. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but it just feels slightly dubious. Still, better than trusting a magic computer to count them.

Hmm, according to Google Maps it's only 0.6 miles, so it can't have taken me twenty minutes to get down there unless I was walking even slower than I thought. I guess I left home a bit later than I thought I'd done. It's right the other end of the village from me, though.

Never been there before because I've never had a reason to before. It's past the doctor's surgery, which is the furthest west I've been before.

I've lived in the village for a couple of years now.

And no.

Agreed, it's not like there's policy documents available on the internet and there's 12.5 hours to read them.

OMG THERE'S EVEN A WEBSITE TO HELP YOU.

Of course, you shouldn't take it as gospel, but at least look at the matrix it gives you at the end and see which policies match up with what's important to you.

I actually voted for the 2nd best match in my list.

Not really. You have to remember that some of these parties can only be voted for during European elections.

i have a flyer of theirs here.

Anti lisbon Treaty, want a new treaty and a referendum, no decisions behind closed doors, full access to voting records, MEP and Commissioners expenses to be published in full, all laws to be made by elected representatives,, for every new law, scrap 2 existing laws, national parliaments to review all new laws.

So, all in all, wankers.

Yeah, but the people I work with aren't stupid, so it is just an attempt to justify wanting to vote for their bad policies. Mind you, the guy saying this was very concerned about the leak of the BNP member list.

Heh. I don't think a lot of this survey program. Also, some of the questions were a bit shit.

Still going to vote Tory for council and labour for council.

The only real choice we have, of course, if for Libertas or the Green Party, as the are the only two to say 'yes' to these:
  • The EU should stop internet service providers from limiting their customers' access to websites and applications for commercial reasons.
  • Extending the period of copyright protection on sound recordings from 50 years will predominantly benefit music companies and work against the interests of consumers.

No, the Green party want to end medical experiments on animals and ban zoos, which makes them cunts of the highest order, and libertas want referenda on all new treaties, which makes them fucking stupid cunts of the highest order.
